    RSS feeds

For this site to be all "Web 2.0", where are the rss feeds? I want a feed for profiles, for each shelf, for group discussions, group shelves, book reviews...everything.

Hey Ben - thanks for the suggestion. It's gonna happen, but we're working on a bunch of other features. It's on the roadmap though...

Actually, RSS feeds should be a top priority according to me.. (though, i dont know what all things you guys are working on!)..

Shelfari has everything.. It also has social networking of its own.. but all my contacts are not on shelfari.. If shelfari gets RSS feeds, a lot more people can be pulled towards shelfari, and at the same time, i can stay in sync with my other friends without everyday coming to website and checking their activity!

I was looking for an RSS from Shelfari today, but couldn't find it. I was going to include it in my post on creating a reading list in a WordPress blog from Amazon Wish List (web services) using Yahoo! Pipes, but alas. i couldn't find any feeds on your site.

As I mentioned in one of my previous post, it should be top priority for RSS feed.. Although, I tried to parse the page and tried to create the RSS feed myself with the help of external service..

Take a look at my Shelf rendered as RSS shelf,

I'd love to see RSS too; the embed widget doesn't work on wordpress.com blogs too well, so an RSS widget would be great

The Shelfari Facebook app, for lack of a better word, sucks :). Actually it isn't that bad, but then it has so few features. Where are the news feed updates? If there was a RSS feed, I could "import" it in facebook at least.

Another vote for RSS feeds. Especially since there isn't an API and the widgets' HTML output is just anchored images with cleared divs between them. This string was started a year ago, but there still isn't RSS feeds. :)

I second this request Ben. RSS for EVERYTHING -- most obviously though would be all of the books. It should also include ISBN and preferably Amazon book IDs

I'm trying to decide what site to use for tracking my reading, and I'll tell you that without RSS feeds and soon, I can't stay here. Booktagger looks just as nice and they have feeds.

Clay, if you need RSS feeds, also check out GoodReads.com. I use both goodreads and shelfari, but goodreads seems to have a larger feature set, including RSS feeds for most everything.

Just to add my voice to the list. RSS feeds needed (especially for reviews), urgently.

As the Shelfari Facebook app doesn't put anything on the mini Feed (which it should!), I am rather hoping to use the RSS feed as "Posted Items" on FB.

I tried anoobi and goodreads and livingsocial (and some FB apps like Visual Bookshelf), but none of them are as nice to use as Shelfari. On the other hand, all the others are better at interactions with other websites, so it's a bit of a conundrum!

No RSS!? That's a deal-breaker. Generally, I love what you guys have put together, but if I can't get everything syndicated then there's no point. Let me know if you add it though and I'll be back. Time to check out goodreads.com (with FriendFeed already supporting them).

Guys, remember that Shelfari is still developing. I have a few frustrations, but my overall experience has been so great that I am willing to wait as the site matures. I see slight updates daily, and I can tell a lot of work is going into the place. Goodreads is great also, but Shelfari is more user-friendly.

Shelfari should understand that we're all sorry to have to use LibraryThing instead because it has the RSS feeds that integrate with FriendFeed, SocialThing, SweetCron and all the other lifestreams. (Not to mention just plain ol' feedreaders.)

I really wanted to use Shelfari. But the lack of any RSS feeds forces me into LibraryThing's hands.

We wouldn't be asking if we didn't want Shelfari to succeed. We do!

Ditto on the need for a RSS feed. I'm a teacher and am weighing the use of Shelfari against LibraryThing. I need\want to know when my students add books to our class shelf. An RSS feed would really help!

I wanted to add RSS feed to FriendFeed, but after some searching realized Shelfari doesn't have RSS support for personal activity. If possible please provide RSS support for personal updates (adding books to my shelf and so on).

I am new on the site and so far loving it...except for no RSS support...

P.S. I really like Shelfari's user interface. Good job!

I just want to be able to create a feed for each of my student's tags and our class tag. (They tag each of their book additions with their own unique tag and our class tag and we create widgets for each of their webpages and our class home page.) I would use a feed for each student's tag and our class tag to keep abreast of when books are added and which books are added by each student.

Tumblr.com is an interesting (to me at least) new blogging / aggregation site that has a very simple "blog" interface plus something akin to FriendFeed. Example: for my tumblr page, I point it at the public rss feed for my delcious bookmarks. When I bookmark a site via delicious, it shows up on my tumblr page without needing to do anything. So I second the personal activity RSS feed Artem D asked for. Being able to customize the level of detail of the activity that goes into the feed (to address both privacy concerns and to limit the noise in the feed) would be great.

Add me to the long list of people wanting more RSS access -- especially to my reviews of books. It'd let me integrate my talk here into my own blog, which would be more promotion for Shelfari.

Love the interface, hate the lack of API.

I set up an account on Shelfari... only then did I realise it's not supported by friendfeed and there is no RSS feed.

It's off to Goodreads for me.

I would like to use Shelfari, so I might return if the RSS is set up, but the more I use Goodreads, the harder it will be for me to switch back.

Is Shelfari still supported? I cant believe 1 year after the original request, this hasn't been offered. Its not like you have to redesign the wheel or anything. Shelfari is pretty nice, but it could be great, if you reached for some low hanging fruit.

Seriously, no RSS? Still? What other amazing features are you working on that a year later you haven't added RSS? If your idea was somehow to make shelfari a social network of personal libraries, the lack of a defining web 2.0 feature makes it clear you have yet to reach your goal. It's disappointing because your site has a lot of promise, but this omission undermines that promise.

Woot, an answer after 2 years! But an answer nevertheless. :)

The bare minimum I'd like is title and cover art. Then possibly a link somewhere, to the book here on Shelfari or whatever suitable. I think most people want to automatically feed what we're currently reading to other services like Facebook and personal websites.

      posted 2 years ago. ( permalink )
    • Hamish G
      Save Changes Cancel

And to add to what Andreas was saying - I think that there should be a feed for each "view" of your bookshelf.

For example, a different feed URL for "All Books", "I plan to read", "I'm reading", "I've read", "Favourites", "Own", "Wish list".
I'd expect there to just be an RSS icon up the top of the shelf beside "Sort by" or something similar...

May be too much to ask for, but RSS feeds to our personal shelfs based on our personal tags would be nice as well...To give you an idea of what I'm looking for, I sometimes have trouble remembering what books of a series I own when I'm out in a store...I'd like to be able to use an RSS feed to check the series (which i've tagged) to see what I have.

      +1 for Hamish G suggestions.

More complex tasks such as random, books based on a tag, or books based on search parameter, might be better implemented in an API rather than RSS. If Shelfari ever does an API I'd like to see JSON as a format.

I'd like to be able to integrate this into my Lifestream. So basically I'd want books that I read / completed, books that I added to my shelf to be read, perhaps the ratings I gave books. [i.e. Bradley rated Art of War 4 stars.]
