You are correct about the possibilities of misuse. Those exist regardless of the forum, though. I, too, participate in sites with ISP detection. However, I know of no public site that limits use to a single ISP - just the assignment of userids. Therefore, one can register from various ISPs and then use all those userids on the same computer. This, of course, is not true for private secured sites.
I see no problem with one person having multiple Shelfari IDs, though. I have two so that I can evaluate security of my DL persona from that other perspective. I know of several members who have at least two Shelfari ids because they use one for personal use and the other for geographic use such as city-specific general work (usually those in the education field) that rotates among like members.
I, too, have been concerned about some of the risk and age-inappropriate material on the site. Don't know what can be done about it, though.
I have no idea what the problem is that Austin is trying to solve. However, if a whole family uses one Shelfari-id, I do not believe that more than one person can be logged on under that id at the same time (I don't know if this is true or not.) If a single computer availability is the issue, then I don't understand what Austin's problem really is.
