A few ideas I had on how to improve Shelfari.
1. Developing an iPhone app would provide easier access for current members with iPhones. As most iPhone users are aware, it is difficult to use the full site on such a small phone, because of the slow loading and small screen. An app, or even just a mobile site, would allow us to add books to our shelves in an easier manner.
2. A link to the book on worldcat.org. World Cat is an online catalog that provides a list of nearby libraries and bookstores to get fast access to the books you want to read. With one click, we can find out if we really have to buy the book, or if we can check it out at the local library.
3. The ability to create a new category to our shelves, such as "Books on Loan to Friends," or "Books Available at the Library." Along with the categories that already come with our account, such as "Favorites," and "I Own," it would be nice to have a little reminder that the book we thought we lost a month ago is really at the bottom of our best friend's backpack, or the latest "must read" is just a short drive away.
I think all of these ideas will benefit everyone on Shelfari, especially since people these days like to have everything at their fingertips, and just a quick click away. It will be much more effective than having to skip around, or wait until we get home.
