Schuyler Hunt had planned a trip for him and his wife until it turned into a girl’s weekend. Now Schuyler is left wondering what to do with his free time. Schuyler sees an ad on the internet for a cottage called Angel’s Gate in God’s county. Schuyler thinks this might be the perfect place to retire in so that their grandchildren can visit. Schuyler decides to take a look at the cottage while the girls are off to play. Once at Angel’s Gate Schuyler will get an life changing event.

Right away when you read this book you will see some similarities with The Shack by Mr. William P. Young. However while each book takes a man and has him speaking with God in a shack or cottage in this case and teaches him lessons that is where the commonality ends.

In this book Schuyler also is visited by old friends that have since passed but have important lessons to teach Schuyler. The lessons are the following: Choices, Perseverance, Questions, Encouragement, Priorities, Self-examination, Forgiveness, Potential, Hope, Limitations, Evil, and Communion. While I did enjoy reading this book, it did not have as strong a lasting impression as the Shack did. Still The Gate is a good first novel by Mr. Stouten.

Stories in Uniform is an excellent anthology of heroic stories. Stories of people who fight and survived and those who gave their lives for freedom. I have read the Reader’s Digest on and off. I like the stories featured in this magazine.

Even though these stories were short by just a few pages, they are still very emotional. I have to say one of my favorite stories not that it is easy to have a favorite when they are all good but still one that really put a smile on my face was a story featured in the Korean War. It is called 1000 men and a baby. It just goes to show you that even when there is a war going on that people can band together to save the innocent ones. Who grow up to never forget the ones who saved their lives. There were many times when I found myself teary-eyed. For anyone who like to read military stories then Stories in Uniform would make the perfect gift.

It seems that Nadzeya is being stalked by sinister phantoms that go on a hunt at night. Andrey decides to stay and help Nadzeya. Andrey gets an up close and personal look at the Wild King’s Hunt.

I am a little embarrassed to admit that I have never heard of Uladzimir or that this book was made into a movie. This book is not something that I would typically read but I decided to give it a chance.

To be perfectly honest. I did find it different in an odd, good way. However I was not feeling it in the beginning and put the book down and gave up on it. It was only after I read some of the other reviews on this book that I decided to give it another chance. The book did get better once I was into it a while. The Wild King’s Hunt party is one scary hunting party. I sure would not want to be the hunted. This book is character driven and is very descriptive which really helped.

I am not a hard core fan of everything Titanic however I do find this subject matter to be fascinating. Thus a reason I wanted to check this book out. I liked the concept that Mr. Brewster brought with this book by focusing on one type of class of passengers. However I think that I might have preferred to read about the third class passengers more. Only because I think that there lies more history in their story and I would have felt the more human aspect then I got from reading about the first class passengers. After a while I did grow bored of the first class passengers and their stories.

What I did like about this book was learning about the maiden voyage of the Titanic. Mr. Brewster did a good job of describing the ship from the large state rooms, the ship captain’s daily walks to check each deck and the engine room to the fact that the crew was pretty much sailing blind without any binoculars so the look outs could not see that far ahead of them for any signs of danger.

Demetrius can not stop thinking about Eliana. After hearing about Eliana’s arrest, he jumps into action to save her. If only she would trust him.

Rapture’s Edge is the third book in the Night Prowler series. I am a fan of this series and author. I like the Ikati. I like the ability that they can turn into mist. In addition, all of the ikati women and men are strong and sexy.

So far the first and third book are my favorites. The banter between Eliana and Demetrius is steamy. It helped to build up the intensity with Eliana and Demetrius. There was a lot of running around but luckily the running around happened in the gorgeous area of France. A nice ending that leads up to the next book. I hope that the Queen is featured more prominently in a future book. She becomes more intriguing to me the more I get to learn about her.

Michael and Patrick are brothers. They enjoy playing games. Thus when they receive instructions from “The Game Master” they don’t hesitate. Armed with a rifle and the clothes on their back, they go out into the real world to find other survivors. It will not be easy as they have to fight off the Bellows. It will be a battle to the end.

If the End Games is Mr. Martin’s debut novel then I can’t wait to read his second one.
O-M-G. This book became an instantaneous hit and one day read for me. Michael and Patrick are such great characters. It was nice that Mr. Martin created the two brothers around his younger brother and himself. It helped to lend to the story and the characters. It made Michael and Patrick feel more real.

The Bellows are creepy. I sure would not want to run across any of them. However the Bellows are not just creatures. As the story progressed they grew smarter and smarter which made them more dangerous. The ending ended with a big bang.

Hannah Gregory is worried about what she is going to do after the death of her parents. It is up to her to care for her younger sisters. Hannah just may have found the answer to her prayers when she spots an advertisement in the grocery store. The ad is for a switchboard operator.

Lincoln Cole works for the bank. He pays a visit to the Gregory homestead. It seems that Hannah’s father took out a second mortgage on the house and defaulted on the loan. The bank is foreclosing on the home.

Luckily for Hannah she meets Rosie. Rosie is also a new switchboard operator. Her mother has a cottage that just became available. She offers it to the girls.

Lincoln may be handsome but Hannah remembers that he is the enemy.

I loved Hannah. She has lots of spunk. She is a free thinker and the type of woman I would imagine myself to be back in these times if I was living in them. Hannah’s two sisters are just as entertaining. I can not wait to read their stories.

Lincoln is easy on the eyes. I almost felt sorry for the way that Hannah treated him, except that I knew that Lincoln could handle Hannah. Now that I have been introduced to this author, I will be checking out more of her books. When Love Calls you answer it and read a copy of this book!

Where Have All the Pop Stars Gone? - Volume 2

I must admit that I picked up this book with the intention of giving it as a gift for my parents. I myself did not grow up in this era of music featured in this book, so I am not really familiar with most of the musicians in this book with the exception of The Moody Blues and Ray Stevens.

So I was not as interested in the rest of the stories as much. However I did find them intriguing. The authors did a good job of giving the readers and fans of these performers a inside look into the performers lives right from the performer's mouths themselves. Although I did find that the authors did a good job of condensing the facts to the most important ones and in nice chronological order. I liked reading about each of the musician’s lives and what they are up to now in the present day.

This book would make a good gift for fans of this era. They will get to reminisce about the good ole times and the music.

Grace is a good student and great daughter. Grace and her friend even made a pact that they would not have sex until college. So it came as a big surprise to Grace’s friend when she announces that she is pregnant.

The guy who got Grace pregnant wants nothing to do with Grace and neither do her parents. In fact her parents kick Grace out of the house. Luckily for Grace her neighbor takes her in. Grace also finds a potential love interest in her neighbor’s great nephew.

Screwed is the type of book that all teens should read. The readers will rally behind Grace and be cheering for her until the end. I know I was doing exactly this. What a courageous young woman Grace was. She had a steep hill to climb with being pregnant and homeless. Yet she found some good friends in her neighbor and her great nephew.

I could not believe what hypocrites Grace’s parents turned out to be. As the saying goes “He who has not committed sin shall cast the first stone”. I can guarantee you that Grace’s parents are not the perfect angels that they would like to think they are. This story had a great message as well. What I took from this book was to stay strong, you can get as many second chances as you need, there is always someone who has your back, and love does exist.

Lucy lives with her mother, Miyako and father. Lucy puts on her best school clothes. She knows today is the day that she will be chosen to be either a hall or lunch monitor. Only this does not happen. One of Lucy’s friends tell her it is because she is Japanese. Lucy does not realize just how different this really makes her until her father dies and the President orders all of the Japanese to be sent to concentration camps.

Sophie Littlefield has done it again. She won me over with her story of Lucy and Miyako. What a great pair. Both women such strong women. The love that each other had for one another was obvious. There is nothing stronger than a mother’s love.

The world that Sophie wrote during the war times and the concentration camp that Lucy and her mother were relocated to and had to endure was awful. It was like I was right there with them and I could smell the filth, see the soldiers in their uniforms smoking their cigarettes, seeing the neighbors bed sheets hanging up as their for of a door for privacy, and maneuvering my way through the camp. Garden of Stones is the type of book that will stick with you long after you have put it down!
