Gretchen, I just finished a book that I think you'd like. "Mister Pip," by Lloyd Jones.
Do you ever listen to BBC at night? Last night I heard an interview of the author of "Half of a Yellow Sun," and the book sounds really good. Have you read it or heard about it?
Hi!The Minneapolis-St.Paul-Minnesota Group recently hit 100 members, so we're kicking off a 100-Member Celebration! Details are available on the group site. Hint: It involves a drawing for some gift certificates, and participation is required in order to be eligible for the drawing :-) Come celebrate with us!Also, we've announced that our summer group read will be Leif Enger's newest book: So Brave, Young and Handsome. I'm reading this book right now and will have the discussion thread up by next week. The thread will be available for discussion this entire summer.Doughgirl5562 / Lynne – Co-Admin of the Minneapolis-St.Paul-Minnesota Group
Hi Gretchen. The story "Walking the Gobi" is very intresting . I like it.
Hi Gretchen,I just wanted to send you a quick note to tell you that the Minneapolis-St.Paul-Minnesota Group has chosen some good books to read and discuss together during the upcoming months. Our Group Read for the months of September/October will be The Master Butcher’s Singing Club by Louise Erdrich and the group read for the months of November/December will be Growing An Inch by Stanley Gordon West. Both books are by Minnesota authors.I invite you to join us in reading and discussing these books. Personally, I'm about half way through The Master Butcher's Singing Club and am finding it to be a very good historical fiction novel with intriging characters. Our reunion was great, as always. It was in San Diego which is a super place to visit with delicious weather. We'll have the next one in Baltimore in 2010. That will be the 50th reunion for my class. Can that actually be? I'm afraid so. It was hilarious to look at some of the scrapbooks and see photos of slumber parties when we were fourteen! We did have one reunion back in France in 1990...would love to go back again.I was in the classroom teaching high school world history and world geography at first. After my boys were born I became certified as a school librarian. That was in middle school and I lost a few brain cells every year. I'm glad to be retired too but I do miss the kids that really loved to read.It was great to hear from you. Keep in touch. Judy
Yes, I added both but who knows when I'll get to read them. My wish list is so long...I hope I live long enough to read them all. I think I have about 8 books from the library now with more coming in. And we're leaving Wed. for San Diego for my high school reunion (France). We have one every two years for the whole school that existed from 1954-67 when De Gaulle threw us out. All Army Brats and I love it.How about you?occupation? family?Oh no, I just got a book in the mail that I ordered from Amazon. It's great but I'm so behind. Judy
Love to be your friend. Nice to hear from you and look forward to talking about books, etc. Not much gray hair that shows but it's there I assure you! I have lots of books because I started keeping a list in '84 when many teachers asked me to recommend something I'd read and my mind always went blank. I haven't listed most of the YA books that I've read. Really, if you have a lot of books it just means you like to read and have been around a long time. Judy
Hi Gretchen,Thanks for writing. I did love Reeve Lindbergh's book. I enjoyed looking at your shelf also. It's nice to find somebody near my age on Shelfari ( but you don't look it...maybe I'm making a mistake?) Judy
Hi! Check out my group for people from Minnesota! Come talk about Minnesota books, movies, coffee shops, music, the weather . . . at: http://www.shelfari.com/groups/25210/about
