Oh, good, you found Scandal. I hope you enjoy it. Also, I love Belong to Me and it's Prequel Love Walked In. I was surprised by how powerful and emotional Belong to Me was. She's a favorite author now.
Oh, I wish Scandal was at all those stores. It deserves a wide audience. Good luck!
Oh man, you need to read this one. It's great. Want me to borrow my copy? It's just a wonderful book. I wish Shelfari had a better rating system. Both Wicked Intentions and Scandal were 5 stars for me, but Scandal was a definite 5 star plus! I haven't decided if it deserves a heart yet.
Saw over at AAR that you're reading Wicked Intentions. It's a hard book to recommend, so I hope you're liking it. The plot was fascinating to me so I was able to overlook some of the more dark, dramatic turns the relationship took. Just a few weeks until the Spellmans arrive. I'm #2 on the library hold book and they've only ordered one copy. I'm hoping they order another one!
I gave the SEP 4 Stars too. It would have been 5 stars but the last 50 pages or so really baffled me. I wanted a little more something (although I did like her dad's HEA). The prologue was also a little cloying. All SEP books seem to end in rainbows and butterflies. They annoy me every time.
Yes, I do always wind up smiling more when I'm reading one of her books.
It's a very intense, dark read, but I found the characters just sympathetic and the story fascinating. I don't think it would work for everyone. I found it unputdownable. Then again, I like Tempt the Devil too (so did my mom). I'm not sure I'll be giving her Wicked Intentions. I check my library every day to see if they've added Revenge of the Spellmans. I've read some stuff on her website and it look so good. And, my gosh, Harry is going to date someone. Can't wait!Btw, I'm reading the new SEP too. So far, I like a lot. I'm a sucker for a marriage of convenience.
You nailed it again. The unrequited love and longing is what I loved. So many romance novels are formulaic and the only thing that really seems to change are the characters names. I loved that Trevor secretly cheered for her to be happy with that Dr. (Mr. Perfect) and that he stepped up next to her when she was racing her brother and championed her to run faster and beat him. I loved that Higgins didn't give you blow by blow of what he was thinking because then there was actually some mystery in it. I loved when Trevor told Chastity at the very end of the book that he had loved her since she invited him over for dinner after his sister, Michelle, died when they were kids. I just thought the book was so substantive. I wrote the author and asked for recommendations and her recs missed the mark for me: Susan Mallery (I only read 1 of hers-Accidentally Yours so I will try another), Nina Killham, Jennifer Crusie (Agnes and the Hitman-fun read-will definitely read her again!), Jennie Shortridge (Love and Biology-uggh). All that boiled down, I loved the depth of Trevor, the history he shared with Chastity, and the mystery of what he was thinking about her. I really thought he wasn't going for her because he didn't want to lose a surrogate family if things didn't work out, but instead he didn't want to lose her presence in his life. I want to love in love with the leading man, any suggestions? Bethany
My favorite romance ever was Just One of the Guys and I loved your review. I would like to find another romantic or romantic comedy that compares. Is there a favorite of yours since your ideas are sync with mine?
I noticed that you are reading the Clare Fergusson mysteries. I just finished the entire Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters and am looking for a new mystery series to start. This series has been mentioned as one I might consider. What do you think of the series overall? Is it a good idea to read the books in order?
The Stephanie Plum comparison is a good one, but I agree The Spellman Files plays more on people being smart not dumb. I actually liked Curse of the Spellmans a little more. It has a dash more romance with my two favorite characters. Her sister is a riot in this one too. I can't wait to see what you think.
Hi Rachel, I see you plan to read Curse of the Spellmans. It and The Spellman Files are two of my favorite books this year. It's hard to dislike books featuring a heroine who loves Get Smart and Doctor Who.
Rachel - I've been lurking at Shelfari for awhile, and finally decided to join. It's going to take awhile to figure it all out, but I love the concept so far.
Rachel -You and I are both a little obsessive, no? ;) So far I've added these to my DIKs: 2008 reads (complete), 2007 reads (about half-way through). Luckily I have my book databases going back to 2004 on my laptop, so I can do this while I'm doing other stuff. Hope you enjoy growing your shelf.TTFN, LLB
