  5. Apocalypstick

Greg Carrico edited the themes of Apocalypstick Thursday, July 12, 2012.

    • Added a theme: The unrealistic perceptions men have of women: Both short stories in Apocalypstick revolve around male characters who see important females in unrealistic ways. The character in Finding Home sees all women as inherently flawed and evil, while Crane, in Killing Tiffany Hudson, sees Tiffany as a living example of perfection. Neither ends well.

  9. Apocalypstick

Greg Carrico edited the glossary entries of Apocalypstick Tuesday, April 3, 2012.

    • Edited a term: offspringoffspring (monster): Offspring are monsters born to (usually) human parents, and are the result of a mother becoming infected with nanites before, or during her pregnancy. All offspring are shaped by their modified genetic structure into identical monsters, varying only in size as they grow. They are fully formed an deadly at "birth," which occurs around the four month mark, though can be even earlier. They kill their mothers by eating their flesh from within the womb. They have no sensory organs that human would recognize, and rely on nanite clouds, which allow them to sense mental activity, to pinpoint their prey.
    • Added a term: host (monster): Hosts were once human, but responded to their nanite infection with perfect assimilation. They become masterful manipulators of nanites, and seem to have superhuman powers, including the ability to mentally dominate and control any being capable of abstract thought. They seek to connect with humans telepathically, and literally consume their thoughts, experiences, and memories, leaving their victims alive, but no longer capable of anything other than purely instinctual behavior. The resultant beings are called husks.
    • marked the description of host (monster) as not a spoiler
    • Added a term: husk (monster): Husks are humans who have had their minds completely drained by a host, or by completely succumbing to their nanite infection. They can no longer think, but respond only to primal urges of food, self preservation, and reproduction.
    • marked the description of husk (monster) as not a spoiler
    • Added a term: exterminator: Exterminators are people whose bodies were able to resist and survive the worst effects of their nanite infection, but have been changed in ways that allow them to sense and interact with the nanites. Most develop the ability to block hostile nanites, and can manipulate their own nanites to use as weapons or tools. Technically, all exterminators have been taught to use their powers in specific ways by the alien refugee, Xipe (sounds like SHEEP-hay), the first exterminator he trained, Crane, or one of their disciples.
    • marked the description of exterminator as not a spoiler
