“I couldn't really even get past the first chapter. I go through stages of loving fantasy to not even bothering to pick it up. I had just read the first three of the Chronicles of Narnia, which is so well-written that the writing style of this book is a drag to read. It's too modernly written...if you take the time to write a good Medieval fantasy book, write it a little better to get a nicer feeling and atmosphere of it. The Princess of the Midnight Ball was better, although still written in the same modern text. ”

Kirsten Learns a Lesson

“Out of all the American historical characters series, this book was my absolute favorite.

Yesterday, I was looking through some of my old American girl books {looking through my shelf, one can tell that I went through a MAJOR AG stage:)} I found this book, and looking through the pages brought so many memories. I still cherish the parts when Kirsten and Singing Bird exchange little gifts as much as I did when I was little, and even more so now, because it vividly brings back little memories of my past childhood.

This story recounts the friendship of a young Swedish immigrant who forms a bond with a young Indian girl on the American prairies.

4.5 stars out of 5 and recommend to girls 7 and up ”
