I read a lot of kid's books because that's what I write, so it's not just fun, but research. I'm pretty sure I'll never run out of books that I want to read (or at least it'll take a long, long time to get there), but if you know of anything that might be of interest, please feel free to recommend it to me.

Hi gnomeyg! I'm from the Author Author group and just wanted to welcome you to our group. March's "featured" author is Margaret Atwood, and we have two "secondary" authors, Guy Gavriel Kay and Charles de Lint. If you're interested, you can choose a book written by one of these three authors, and after you've read it, please come post a review and star rating so the rest of us in the group know what you read and whether you liked it or not. Happy Reading!

You joined us on a good month, since we are doing Canadian authors as our theme. I see you're from Ontario. I'll just do a little plug for the other group I co-admin, just in case you're interested. :-) It's the "Canada" group. Take a look - you can get there from my page if you want to see what it's all about.

I'm enough out of the loop that you never have to worry about me seeing a movie/TV version of ANYTHING within the first 5-10 years of release. Of course, I'm also just enough out the loop to have not known when Chris Moore's LA dates were (ah well...at least I have the signed special edition of Lamb, good nuff fer me). I had received Fool when I was in the middle of Neverwhere and was just about to ditch Gaiman for Moore, but thought better of it. Instead, I'm about to enjoy a Gaiman/Moore sandwich...oh...wait...so not right! :D

I've actually jumped right into Something Rotten because I was having so much fun with the third book. He is so inventive and quite intelligent.

Hi. Yes those were the good old times. Some of them I haven't read like in the late 90s. It's hard to say on my favorite.

As for writing, I hit the 50 K mark for JulNano's finish line and have 10 days left of July to keep on going before I hit August. I'm aiming for 85-90 K (maybe 100 K, depending where I am on the storyline) and hope to finish in Mid-August. As for my old Nano ms, I'm at 144 K with 18 K cut and 52 K more to go. Still a long way to go. As for my pre-Nano mss, I haven't been back to them in awhile and hope to this week. I used to have mentors but they'd quit on me in the past. So I'm alone and do have some writing forums/egroups for support. I can't afford to pay for an editing service yet. Good luck and keep me posted-I'll do the same.

Hey ... I just finished Beth Cooper. It's super hilarious. I give the story a 2.5 and the humor a 5. So, for me, that made it worth reading. Basically, it's like an 80's Brat Pack movie in book form. A lot good about it, some not so good.

I have 2 editions of Just So Stories, both with Kipling's original drawings and poems. I'm about halfway through and absolutely loving it. I really recommend reading it.

I did meet him at a signing for Chins. He spoke to the group for well over a half hour before he signed everyone's book. It was a very fun evening. I still love the Evil dead movies, and pretty much only watch Xena when he is on. I haven't watched Burn Notice yet, but I hear its good.

Umm...yeah, Neil Gaiman, Sherman Alexie, Judy Blume, the Kellermans, the guys who write Brevity and Unshelved, Gene Yang, Melissa de la Cruz, MT Anderson, Brian Selznick, Jordan Sonnenblick, etc etc etc...I'm giving myself heart palpitations!!
Honestly, I've only vaguely heard of Kinky Friedman, and the new book sounds interesting...

Haha! That's awesome! I only realized on Thursday that Christopher Moore will be there. Seriously, I didn't notice. He's listed on the schedule as Chris Moore, and as I was poring over everything, I saw his name and it finally clicked. This is my first time going, and I'm really excited!! :D

Thanks for the tip! Actually, I do get a few ARCs from publishers, since I work in the libraries, and I'm also going to BEA (whoo-hoo!) so I'll have ARCs spilling outta my ears come Monday (double-whoo-hoo!) :)

Hello Gnomeyg, thanks for inviting me to be your friend! As you correctly surmised, I am in the 50 book challange, although I've been tardy posting to it lately. I try to read a book every week, though I'm about to fall off the wagon; my book club has chosen The Count of Monte Christo for its next selection, and it weighs in at 1300+ pages. I see that you enjoy the Kinkster; he once autographed one of his books for me, "from one sick f__k to another! Definitely one of my most prized possessions! Good reading! Alfred

Hi Tanya. Nanoedmo is National Novel Editing Month in March. It's part of Nano. Instead of writing 50 K words, it's logging in 50 hours. I was able to win both. There's also NanoPubYe and other Nanos like in May, this summer. I write poetry too-have some published, but never got a book of poetry/chapbook published due to rejections. I'm glad we're both in the writing world. I'm currently on my third round of edits and hope to get my novel done real soon before I query. I'll be doing July's Nano and Nano again this fall. Good luck on your novel. I have a few mss I'm also working on, including a novella I'm editing. I can relate on reading. I'm juggling about 5-6 books at a time, since my goal is to read 15 books in 21 days. I read three times a day, 3 books at a time, 3 or 5 chapters at a time (depending on how many chapters). In June, I'll be tempting to try to read a new book a day. Thanks fo the well wishes on my job hunt.
