  • Mark of the Demon

It should have been just a routine summoning. Kara Gillian has been conjuring demons for a good while now. One night she is practicing her skills in order to summon a low level demon and the unexpected and dangerous happens - instead of a fourth level demon walking through the portal she invoked, Rhyzkahl, a Lord of Demon appears instead. Knowing full well she is probably going to die, Kara is unprepared but utterly captivated by the deceptively beautiful demon. One scorching hot sexual encounter later, Kara is unsure of what just happened or why he demands that she call him. With his instructions in her mind, Kara heads into work where she is assigned her first murder case. Having recently been promoted to investigator, Kara is given the duty of finding and arresting a serial killer who has been dubbed, `The Symbol Man'. The Symbol Man has killed thirteen people and more are turning up dead. Things in Beaulac, Louisiana are about to get very interesting.

MARK OF THE DEMON floored me. Completely. I could NOT put this book down for a single minute. Kara was born into a family of women who practice the occult and summon demons. She lives alone out in the country so that her nocturnal activities will not be witnessed by anyone. Enter Special Agent Ryan Kristoff. Readers are given a hint of romance between these two characters and then Ms. Rowland throws a huge wrench into the storyline that I did not see coming. Ryan is an FBI investigator who has been asked to assist on the case that Kara is working on. To complicate matters further, he also dabbles in the occult and is small time summoner. With Ryan on her side, and help from Rhyzkahl in her dreams, Kara is determined to find The Symbol Man - before he finds her.

I loved the character of Kara. I found her a mix between princess and tom-boy. She wasn't afraid to get dirty but she was still girly enough to worry about how she looked. Ryan was a top notch FBI agent and his treatment of Kara evolved in the pages of MARK OF THE DEMON despite the fact that Ryan's and Kara's association starts out a bit shaky. Each officer doesn't trust the other but as events unfold, the two grow closer. Their on-the-job connection begins to turn into something more and I look forward to exploring their relationship with them in future releases.

For a first release, Diana Rowland's MARK OF THE DEMON begins strong and continues to kick-butt the entire book. Action, arcane witchcraft, demons, and dream travel - I can't rave about MARK OF THE DEMON enough. Part urban fantasy, part romantic suspense, MARK OF THE DEMON will grab you, keep you enthralled, and take every single thing you think you know about this fabulous book and surprise you completely.

Take a chance on Diana Rowland's first release, MARK OF THE DEMON. You will be glad you did - I know I was.

  • Guilty Pleasure
    • Rated 5 stars

Lora Leigh fans begging for Khalid’s story need wait no longer. FBI agent Marty Mathews is more than just Khalid’s shadow – she is the woman he is afraid of loving and of losing.

Khalid has always been the ‘third’ in his friend’s marriages and he likes it that way. From an early age, he learned that to love someone is to lose them and there is no way he is losing the woman who holds his heart. He knows she is following him but when she is given a vacation from her FBI duties, all bets are off. Khalid knows it is only a matter of time before she succumbs to every single GUILTY PLEASURE he has imagined doing to her. When his past threatens his present, Khalid knows that there is nothing he won’t do to keep Marty safe – she is the other half of his soul.

Martha ‘Marty’ Mathews has been shadowing Khalid for years as part of her job. Her feelings for him have to stay in the background and she likes it that way. However, once she is given a vacation from her duties as an agent, she knows that her time is coming – Khalid will stop at nothing to claim her. When she is threatened and almost harmed, she sees the man she has loved become the ruthless warrior he needs to be, she loves him all the more. Marty knows the sexuality that Khalid needs and she is just the woman to make sure her man indulges in every single GUILTY PLEASURE she has to offer.

Having loved Khalid since reading Lora Leigh’s SHAMELESS; I cheered him from the sidelines in every single book since. Always the ‘third’ in a relationship, I yearned for him to have his own story. GUILTY PLEASURE is the exact happily ever after that I hoped he would have and then some. Lora Leigh has turned up the heat in GUILTY PLEASURE to combustible as every single touch, kiss, and breath is hotter than the fourth of July. Marty and Khalid’s chemistry scorches the pages in each and every love scene. Add in the suspense of the villain and my heart reached palpitation stage!

Lora Leigh delivers and then some. She has penned an erotic love story with passion, intrigue and sexual decadences I have only previously imagined. I loved every single word – GUILTY PLEASURE is meant to be savored and enjoyed only I couldn’t stop frantically reading until I finished and smiled at the love shared by these two strong characters. GUILTY PLEASURE is marvelous – I dare you to read it slowly!

  • Dangerous Lover
    • Rated 5 stars

Seeing his Caroline, the love of his life, kissing another man through a frosty window so long ago made Jack Prescott what he is today; a highly trained, secret ops soldier who can kill with his fingers. Tired of the grueling and dangerous aspects of his occupation, Jack plans to begin a new chapter in his life; a new life in which he hopes to make Caroline a part. Now, Jack has returned to the town where Caroline used to live with the hope of discovering information on her whereabouts. Jack is taken aback to find that she still resides there. Expecting Caroline to be married, Jack is again surprised to learn she has remained single. Now all he has to do is get close enough to her. And he will. He has a plan. A plan that he has spent the last twelve years thinking about since that fateful night in the freezing snow when his world was shattered like breaking glass.

Caroline Lake ’s life has changed dramatically in the last twelve years. With the death of her parents, she became solely in charge of her younger brother who was horribly hurt in the same accident which claimed her parent’s lives. While Caroline grew up privileged, the money only lasted for so long, and with her brother’s medical bills piling up, Caroline found herself slipping into genteel poverty. Now, since the death of her brother and her declining finances, Caroline doesn’t know what she is going to do.

At her bookstore late Christmas Eve, Caroline is almost ready to throw in the towel; that is, until a large, dangerous-looking man comes in looking for a place to stay. While Caroline knows she should be cautious of Jack Prescott, she can’t help but trust him. He is everything she has ever envisioned in a man, and for once she is going to follow her intuition. Unable and unwilling to be alone on Christmas Eve, Caroline voices what is in her heart. When Jack takes her up on her enticing offer, Caroline has a feeling that this DANGEROUS LOVER is exactly what she needs.

With danger now behind him, Jack is ready to claim the woman he has loved for so long. Or so he thought. Danger, it seems, has found him once again.

I have been a fan of Lisa Marie Rice’s work since her Ellora’s Cave publications. Having read everything she has written I knew I was in for a great book. What I got was an outstanding read with sinfully delicious and realistic characters, an intriguing plot, and sensuality that was hot enough to singe my fingers as I turned the pages. Jack Prescott had watched and loved Caroline for so very long and he was the epitome of a protector and a man in love. Because of what was in his possession, Jack knew that he would need to protect Caroline at the first sign of trouble. I quickly became enthralled at the way the characters interacted and how perfect they were for each other. Danger came in the form of a previous nemesis, and while I knew he would have to somehow find Jack and Caroline, it made the suspense no less valid for me. Immersed in this tale, I read DANGEROUS LOVER cover to cover.

Fans of Lisa Marie Rice will adore this sensual and emotional tale. Her writing style, her captivating love scenes, and the suspense that I have come to crave in a Lisa Marie Rice novel is all here within the pages of DANGEROUS LOVER. I highly recommend running, not walking, to the nearest bookstore as soon as this book is released. You will be glad you did.

  • Rescue Me
    • Rated 5 stars

Rescue with a bit of heat is the theme of this intense and sultry anthology penned by three of the most talented writers of romantic suspense today. Don't miss it!

    TROPICAL HEAT by Cherry Adair

Unwittingly kidnapped by terrorists, Dr. Elizabeth Goodall is being held at knifepoint and informed that she is going to reconstruct the face of one of the most wanted men in the world. Being a doctor has its perks but this isn't one of them, especially since Beth is not the world renowned plastic surgeon the criminal thinks she is. Biding her time before she has to perform surgery, Beth convinces her captors to allow her to rest. As she frantically tries to find a way out, rescue comes in the form of Sam Pelton, a counterterrorist operative. He also happens to be the man in love with her.

TROPICAL HEAT by Cherry Adair starts this enticing anthology with a bang. Sam has been in love with Beth ever since he first laid eyes on her, but his honor would not let him hurt Beth's marriage by revealing his desires. Now, when she and her husband have gone their separate ways, Beth is taken from Sam before he can act on his suppressed feelings. Acting as the extremely well trained killer he is, Sam is going to get his woman back.

    ATLANTA HEAT by Lora Leigh

Emerson Delaney is the type of woman to get under a man's skin - or as Macey March desires, just simply under him. Desire is a vastly underrated word when it comes to what Macey feels for Ms. Delaney. However, having been threatened by his superior and holding the demotion papers to prove it, Macey knows that Emerson is off limits. That is, until he receives a midnight phone call informing him that Emerson has been kidnapped. All bets are off with this Navy SEAL, and it is his job to get Emerson back. Macey knows that once he rescues her, he will never let her be taken from him again.

Lora Leigh's contribution, ATLANTA HEAT, is flat out scorching. The chemistry between Emerson and Macey is instantaneous and as such kept me glued to the pages. Macey knew that Emerson was going to be the one woman to bring him to his knees and the fact that he welcomed this made me love him all the more. As for Emerson Delaney? Every girl needs a best friend like Emerson. I can only imagine the trouble she can get into when she is not with Macey. Charismatic, flirtatious, and innocently tempting, Emerson took great pleasure in keeping her man on his toes. When he fell, he fell right into her arms - just where she wanted him to be.

    DESERT HEAT by Cindy Gerard

Elena Martinez is an assistant district attorney and her nemesis, the man she butts heads with in court, Seth King, is a detective. More than once sparks have flown in the courtroom because of their different personalities. Imagine their surprise when they are teamed up in a charity scavenger hunt in the Grand Canyon. It seems that for all their bluster and blunder around each other, they are more in tuned with each other than either of them expected. When two crazed killers come after them with murder on their minds, Elena and Seth rely on more than their training; they rely on each other - with sizzling results.

DESERT HEAT is the third contribution to the RESCUE ME anthology and as such nicely sets the tone for the reader to be satisfied at the book's end. Elena and Seth were oil and water - but, mix up what is normal for them and add a bit of suspense and danger, and the results were an alluring and highly charged read. Seth was dreamy and resourceful and I loved his irreverence when trying to entice Elena. She gave as well as she got and when the smoke cleared, what Elena got was the love of her life.

When three of the best authors I have ever read team up to write a common themed anthology, I can't help but hope that all three of their contributions would be installments that I'd enjoy. With RESCUE ME, my worries were for naught. Each installment, while having a common theme, carried its own weight and as such, was magnificent in its own right. TROPICAL HEAT by Cherry Adair kept me on my toes with hot, fast paced action and a hero worthy of cover model status. DESERT HEAT, Cindy Gerard's contribution, while full of intense drama, made me smile more than once while reading the banter between Seth and Elena. Then you have ATLANTA HEAT by Lora Leigh. This was the middle novella in RESCUE ME but it is by no means `middle of the road'. The first scene grabbed me and I was held spellbound the entire book. Macey's bad boy looks and Emerson's delightful and curious nature drew me in and I found their romance breathtaking and beautiful. The heat and passion between Macey and Emerson made me blush one minute and laugh the next. I couldn't get enough of these two characters and was actually sad to see their story end.

RESCUE ME is an anthology to be savored and read over and over. Emotionally charged and highly powerful at times, RESCUE ME combines three talented authors and comes up a winner. No matter which author is your favorite, this anthology is a decadent and romantic read and a worthy addition to any keeper shelf.

  • Salvation
    • Rated 5 stars

    Dark Elves 3: Salvation

Irin has lived among the Dark Elves, or Raedjour, since she was two
years old. Eighteen years later, she is a grown woman and the elves
that have protected her from harm her whole life realize that she needs
to find a true mate. In order to do that, they must lift the spell
placed on her years ago in order to keep her safe. Since virginity is
so rare, a contest is given and to the victor goes Irin. She knows
that there is only one man who she wants to be with and so she sets out
to make sure that he wins.

Radin, sorcerer, protector, and extremely sexual being, has loved Irin
her whole life. He knows that he is going to be the first man she is
with, so he sets out to make his nine days with her count. What he
doesn't count on is the fact that she is a mage, and therefore in
danger from the rhaeja, or king. In order to save Irin, Radin calls on
the one man he trusts, his apprentice, Savous. Because Savous has
loved Irin her whole life as well, he is happy to set a spell and in
turn the two men and Irin enjoy each other, forming a bond together.
Sadly, this isn't enough to keep them safe as danger is lurking around
    the corner.

Dark Elves 3: Salvation tore me apart. This has to be Jet Mykles
finest work yet. Bravo on a prize of a book that kept me on the edge
of my seat and totally surprised me. I can honestly say that this is
the first book where I couldn't predict the ending, and for that I am
thankful. Rarely do I read such books and this one is just a treasure.
The way Ms. Mykles portrays her characters makes them so real to me, I
can feel their joy and pain. Dark Elves 3: Salvation consumed me and I
cannot wait to see if Ms. Mykles will continue with this series. I,
    for one, hope so!

  • Hot Nights, Dark Desires
    • Rated 5 stars

Set in sultry New Orleans, HOT NIGHTS, DARK DESIRES includes three erotic love stories not to be missed.

    THE ART OF DESIRE

Sophie Fiore loves tattoos. From simple to complex, she finds them erotic and entrancing. However, Sophie does not have one because of her family's potential reaction. Accompanying her friend to the tattoo parlor, Sophie can stand it no longer and allows Tristan, the sinfully gorgeous artist to tattoo her. Emotions flare and Sophie is unable to contain her desire - for Tristan and for tattoos.

Tristan holds great guilt inside of him for the death of his younger brother. He feels unworthy of a woman such as Sophie and as such refuses to fall in love. Until Sophie, though, this was a pretty easy thing to do. In a matter of minutes, Tristan is ensnared by this beguiling woman and can't seem to keep his hands, and his tattoo needle, off of her.

Each character in Eden Bradley's THE ART OF DESIRE, has issues concerning love and acceptance. Guilt plays a big part in their lives where there are two constants - their desire for tattoos and their desire for each other. Tristan and Sophie's love is timeless and no matter how much they fight the emotion each feels for the other, the end result is two halves becoming whole.

    SHADOW PLAY

Hex is a member of a paranormal society that investigates ghost sightings and strives to capture those images on film. He enjoys his work and while he can't tell anyone what he does, his cover as a professional photographer makes him more than enough to live on. Having received a call from super model Brenna St. James and subsequently ignored it, Hex is surprised to find himself outside her home in the middle of the night. When he hears her scream, he must find out what is wrong.

What good is a cover model that can't be photographed? Her career in shambles, flat broke, and desperately in need of a job, Brenna St. James telephoned and left a message for Hex, a famous photographer, but he never returned her call. Brenna has not been in a focused picture in months because she is being haunted and undermined by a ghost in her home. Screaming her frustration, her savior arrives in the form of Hex, the man she urgently needs in order to jump start her career.

SHADOW PLAY by Sydney Croft explores the supernatural world of ghosts and the phenomena of house haunting. Hex and Brenna each are affected by ghosts and unexplained occurrences and while Hex accepts his paranormal abilities and even makes a career out of them, Brenna does not. Made fun of and forced to bear witness to her mother's idiosyncrasies as a child, Brenna just wants the entity gone so that she can move on with her life and become once again the model she is famous for being.

    NIGHT VISION

Catie Lanford has a huge problem on her hands. She was the sole beneficiary of her uncle's ramshackle bar and wants nothing more than to get it profitable again and sell it. Hiring a cooler, a professional `butt kicker', to come in and slap the bar into shape, Catie doesn't count on his abilities to seduce her. As an artist, Catie has a plan. She wants to finish art school before moving forward with her career. While she loves and desires the time she and her hired man spend together, she knows that in the end, they are not meant for each other. Or are they?

Bat Kelly has seen his share of bars and barroom brawls. An ex soldier turned cooler, he requires money up front and complete control. Seeing Catie in the middle of a bar fight the first night on the job makes his plans change somewhat. When she spills the beans and confesses to her deception for hiring him, Bat knows he should pick up stakes and head out. But he can't. It seems that Miss Catie Lanford has gotten under his skin though he knows she has plans and a life waiting on her. He refuses to stand in her way and even goes so far as to make her dream a reality. What happens when Catie leaves? Will Bat let her go?

NIGHT VISION by Stephanie Tyler is risqué and steamy. Bat and Catie both know that falling in love is not in either of their plans and while they fight their feelings every step of the way, the one thing they agree upon is the most important. They desire each other to the point of obsession and until it is time for Catie to return to school, they are going to grasp every moment together as if it is their last.

When three authors come together to write an anthology, I always worry about whether or not I am going to like one story more than another. In HOT NIGHTS, DARK DESIRES I should have known better. Each novella in this fabulously written anthology is worthy of the 5 Blue Ribbons I gave the entire novel. Eden Bradley's well written first segment, THE ART OF DESIRE, is deliciously frank in its sex appeal and I found myself squirming in my seat more than once at the sweltering love scenes and beautiful emotions of the characters. SHADOW PLAY by Sydney Croft grabbed my attention first off with the hero's name. Ironic to say the least, Hex is the perfect name, at least in my book for a hero that can photograph ghosts. The fact that he seems to `hex' his heroine didn't slip by me as well. Hex and Brenna come together in a burst of steam hot enough to melt wax and I loved watching their lives become perfectly entwined. NIGHT VISION by Stephanie Tyler knocked my socks off with Bat Kelly and his naughtiness. Full of life and not afraid to reach for what he wants even though he knows he'll have to let her go, Bat made my heart pound. Together these two strong characters forged their way into my heart and I loved every minute.

HOT NIGHTS, DARK DESIRES is a delight and one that I will read more than once. Each novella contained in this anthology is well written and certifiably hotter than a firecracker. Grab the ice, turn on the air conditioner, and sit back and enjoy this tremendous anthology!

  • A Knight's Vow
    • Rated 5 stars

Lindsay Townsend has penned a gripping historical romance set during the Crusades. Alyson of Olverton has loved Guillelm since she was a teen. Thought dead, he is back from the grave and the Crusades and she loves him still.

Years ago, Alyson of Olverton loved Guillelm de la Rochelle and dreamed of becoming his wife. When he asked her to marry him, Alyson's heart sang with joy until her father shattered her world and refused to allow the match. Because of this, Guillelm went on a crusade to the Holy Land and if rumors are true, died there. Alyson prays daily that the rumors prove false, and when Guillelm finally returns Alyson's prayers are answered. Alyson still loves her knight and can only hope his love for her is just as strong despite being away from each other for seven long years.

Guillelm de la Rochelle has returned to his father's castle a changed, if not `risen', man. Scorning the stories of his demise, Guillelm is amazed at the changes in his father's home since his departure. Not only is the only woman he ever loved living in his deceased father's home and thus Guillelm's ancestral castle, but he finds out she was betrothed to his father as well. While Guillelm finds this disconcerting, the fact remains that Alyson is in danger. Now that he has found Alyson again, Guillelm will stop at nothing to keep her safe. Even marry her himself.

A KNIGHT'S VOW drew me in with the pageantry of this medieval time and I was compelled to read this book. My heart melts any time a knight fights to win his lady love. Watching Guillelm do just that kept me sighing at the wholly romantic nature of his actions. Stoic at times, sinfully sexy and seductive at others, Guillelm is the ideal knight in shining armor. I think Alyson agrees with me one hundred percent!

A KNIGHT'S VOW is a gripping historical tale of love, life, and chances. It is a heady and passionate read which rapidly took me to a place that is timeless. I couldn't have asked for a better story!

  • Reckless
    • Rated 5 stars

Desire and possession are the names of the game in Saskia Walker's latest erotic romance titled, RECKLESS.

Katrina Hammond's life is staid and some what predictable and she has decided that she wants to be reckless. The opportunity for this change of heart presents itself in the form of Sergio Teodora, A Spanish businessman who wants Katrina to price his father's art collection.

Dark, desirable, and handsome, Sergio is used to being in control as well as controlling. Convincing Katrina to come to his villa in Spain to price an art collection of his father's is a piece of cake. Or so he thinks. It seems that Sergio has underestimated his brother, Nicolas.

Nicolas is the disinherited black sheep of the Teodora family and must depend on secret phone calls from staff members to find out what is going on with his family. Receiving a frantic phone call from his father's housekeeper concerning an art collection has Nicolas making plans. The first thing he needs to accomplish? Meeting and checking out Katrina Hammond.

Katrina is thrilled to be in Spain. Carefree and excited, she looks forward to seeing Sergio again. That withstanding, she isn't above having a good time near her hotel with the playful holiday party participant dressed as a demon. Things come to a head when Nicolas reveals himself and Katrina finds herself torn between two lovers as well as brothers.

RECKLESS is unique and unlike any romance I have ever read. Fully expecting champagne and roses and instances of erotic naughtiness, I was pleasantly surprised to witness dark, compelling, and sibling rivalry. Sergio was the brother in control and his desire to possess Katrina bordered on obsessive. He needed her for his agenda while Nicolas' desire for Katrina was not agenda driven. What starts out as a way to get back at his older brother turns into so much more with each love scene with Katrina. Saskia Walker is a genius because the turn of events in RECKLESS shocked me completely.

Arousing, enigmatic, and compelling, I highly recommend RECKLESS. If a dark romance with many suspenseful and surprising moments is what you crave, then RECKLESS is the book for you!

  • Dark Warrior Unleashed
    • Rated 5 stars

Alexis Morgan introduces readers to a thrilling new series with DARK WARRIOR UNLEASHED, the first installment. Ranulf Thorsen, an enforcer, and Kerry Logan, a woman in danger, are the main players in this fast paced incredible read.

Ranulf Thorsen likes his solitude and feels that he has earned every bit of his isolation. There is only one person he would ever allow to interfere with his seclusion and that is the Kyth people's Grand Dame. When she sends a mysterious summons to Ranulf, he readily obeys.

Kerry Logan loves to dance and finds that she is at her most calm when around groups of people. It is during one of these times that she finds herself in a dance club on fire. Not even aware of the strength she is using to save patron after patron, Kerry eventually collapses afterwards after being helped by a heroic man that oozes alpha maleness and sex appeal. The moment is shattered seconds later when Kerry's eyes meet those of a malevolent male and she has no doubt that she has just looked into the eyes of a killer.

The Grand Dame of the Kyth has promised Ranulf that once this mission is complete, she will allow it to be his last. All he has to do is find the person responsible for setting fires and endangering and killing others. Ranulf knows the person responsible is not a human, but rather a Kyth. As such the killer must be stopped by a Talion, namely himself. Ranulf is willing to do his duty, but when the killer turns his sights on Kerry, Ranulf has no choice but to bring her to the Kyth stronghold for protection. There, in the Grand Dame's compound, sparks fly and hearts are consumed with love.

I love nothing better than a heroic, virile, and breathtakingly handsome warrior. Ranulf is such a man. His loyalty to the Grand Dame, in spite of his desire for quiet, won me over in the first ten pages of DARK WARRIOR UNLEASHED. Ranulf needed a strong heroine and Kerry is that and more. Seductively charming and playful, Kerry makes Ranulf yearn for her and it is exactly what that big warrior needed to balance his life.

DARK WARRIOR UNLEASHED by Alexis Morgan is a compelling and passionate novel. I look forward to each new novel by this fine author.

  • Ruthless Boss, Hired Wife
    • Rated 3 stars

Cormac Douglas, the male lead of Kate Hewitt's latest release, RUTHLESS BOSS, HIRED WIFE, isn't above lying to get what he needs - and what he needs immediately is a wife.

Cormac Douglas is a successful businessman. Money, women, cars--he is able to have them all. The one thing he does not have, nor does he want, is a wife. Content to use what he needs for his own reasons, Cormac is dismayed that he could lose a multi-million dollar business deal because of his single status. That problem is easily solved in his eyes - all he has to do is convince his secretary, Lizzie Chandler, to pose as his wife for the weekend. After all, getting what he wants is what Cormac does best.

Lizzie Chandler is unable to believe what she is hearing. Cormac, her sexy but ruthless boss, wants her to pose as his wife for the weekend so that he can land a huge business contract. Lizzie finds herself angry and upset but unable to refuse Cormac's special type of persuasion.

I really enjoy the ruthless boss/virginal-yet-sexy secretary scenario like what Kate Hewitt utilizes in RUTHLESS BOSS, HIRED WIFE. Alpha to the core, Cormac is focused on his needs and his business. He sees nothing wrong with using another person for his own personal gain. While Lizzie is shy and quiet, she isn't a doormat and I think her love for Cormac made him redeemable in my eyes.

Passionate and emotional, RUTHLESS BOSS, HIRED WIFE is a great addition to any library. The plot is entertaining and the characters are realistic. Grab a drink and sit in your favorite chair, RUTHLESS BOSS, HIRED WIFE is a likeable relaxing read.
