I enjoy fiction and non-fiction. My favorite author is Kurt Vonnegut. I have a book out called The Long-Timers which is currently available at online booksellers Borders and Barnes and Noble.

The book makes one wonder what might have been had the US avoided World War II. If the US didn't enter the war, how far would Germany have gotten in it's plan to takeover Europe and what would Asia look like ruled by the Japanese? If there was no war, would there have been a Baby Boom? How might the many thousands of people who otherwise died in the war have impacted the US? Would there have been a Women's movement, since it was fueled in large part by the women who worked in factories while the men were away fighting the war and who began to question their traditional roles in society after the war? How might the fifties have gone with no Eisenhower in the White House? Would there have been a Korean or Vietnam conflict?

I've read this a few times. Maybe it's time to pull it off the shelf again.

A humorous and very poignant look at World War II.

I'm the author, so I can't be objective about the book. However, I can tell you a little something about it. This is the story of Victoria Wells, a woman who goes from being a prostitute in the East End of London to a wealthy philanthropist in New York. Victoria is a long-timer, a person with an unusually long lifespan. She learns of her special attribute after being attacked by a shadowy figure who may or may not be Jack the Ripper. As she moves through time, she meets Charles and Renee Fox, a married couple who've been together for over a thousand years. The book follows the exploits of Victoria and the Foxes as they travel through history.

Probably my favorite of Vonnegut's books. The narrator is fleshed out very well and the story held my interest thoughout. My favorite scene is where the prisoners have escaped and are crossing the frozen lake at night.
