Grouchy- I see a Bukowski book on your shelf. isn't he in that grouping of very dark americian 50's/early 60's writers? I haven't read one by him but have read several by Hubert Selby Jr. and I seem to hear them mentioned together. Selby's best was Last Exit To Brooklyn. I just read another of that era and style but haven't put it on my Shelfari list yet: Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates. I loved it. I movie too was perfect. it is an existential classic. -Julie
dear grouchy- I like your profile. there are some excellent and dark books on your shelf. In Cold Blood (have you red The Executioner's Song by Mailer?). The Stranger. You also like Kafka. I see one Ishiguro on your shelf.....from the way seem to lean...I would like to suggest his darkest, most disturbing, and maybe best, Never Let Me Go. _julie
