Since middle school, Gil Michelini dreamed of adopting a child from outside the United States. It was not a dream inspired by a mission trip or another experience; he just knew it was something he wanted to accomplish. This dream was stored away after marrying Fran in 1988.
Eleven years later, God had blessed Fran and Gil with three biological daughters and granted almost every other one of Gil’s dreams, save one.
Gil couldn’t have found Guatemala on a map in August of 2000 when committing to the adoption of his daughter. He didn’t know anything about how to start international adoption. His wife was not supportive of the adoption and neither were many of his friends; however, God gave him a calling to adopt—through a nocturnal dream—when his daughter yelled to him from a mountaintop, “Daddy, come and get me.”
He is using his first published work, Daddy, Come & Get Me, as a platform to raise awareness of adoption and the Christian obligation of orphan care. The purpose of Gil’s outreach, I’m Available for Orphan Care (www.iaOutfitters.com), is to provide instruction and connections between those wanting to care for orphans in their distress and those professional who can assist.
The Michelini’s live outside Indianapolis, Indiana.
