Nearing two decades of life, I realize I have so much to do! One of the most impressionable times in my life was visiting England. It was a week-long road trip all the way from Manchester through London and back. We saw Anne Hathaway's garden, Buckingham Palace, Chatsworth, Lyme Park, and a myriad of other sites that have inspired generations of...more »

Hi George, welcome to Shelfari, and may you write a storm of thoughts through your days. Try the books you don't like now again in ten years, the ones you do like as well. Much will seem to glitter differently.

I forgot to ask about the day-lillies in your photo. Are they from your garden? They are one of my favourites.

    Hi George.
I'd just finished teaching my Year 5 class about book reviews. They're all eight years of age so when I told them of my win the were all very excited. They've already decided that they will all write a review of their favourite books and the winner will get my old copy of The Philosopher's Stone, which in itself is quite special as the illustrator Thomas Taylor signed it when I met him.

Thanks George, your note made my day. I can't wait until the book arrives. I've already told my class about my win and they've insisted I take it to show them. The book was very good and the review almost wrote itself. I'm glad you liked it.

Hi again! I forgot to answer your question about what an educational diagnostician does. My job is to administer IQ and achievement tests to school age children to determine if they have a disability that makes them eligible for Special Education. I am not a psychologist so I don't do psychological evaluations. A diagnostician is qualified to diagnose mental retardation, learning disabilities, and I also part of a team that diagnoses and evaluates autism .
    I really love my job.

Hi georgefayne. It's been a long time since I read Great Expectations and A Tale of Two Cities but I liked the latter most. It deals with the French Revolution so you could think of it as more of a historical novel than Great Expectations. Around the same time that I read ATTC, I read a historical novel by Victoria Holt called "Desiree" which also dealt with the French Revolution. The two books brought history to life and I learned more from them than from any dry history text books.
BTW, are you LDS? If you are, we have that in common also.
Congratulations on your trip to England. When I was in college (many years ago), I did a semester abroad in Cologne Germany and then traveled around Europe. It was a life-changing experience and I am so grateful for having been able to do it.

    Thanks for joining my Friends.

I see Pride and Prejudice among your favorites -- Recently someone submitted the first chapter to 18 publishers in England? 17 rejections, only one house didn't fall for the hoax.

Re your question on Writer-Readers you may find my website archive on Working with Michener of interest. (www.erroluys.com)

    Best, Errol

Hi. What do you think of the Book of Mormon? Also, did you love Manchester? I lived there for 1 year to study. It was one of the greatest places I have ever been to.

You have some great books on your shelf! I am a HUGE fan of the Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow series.

I also love the His Dark Materials series by Pullman. I think the movie is going to be great!
