Did you know that there is a movie made from 84 Charing Cross Road? Anne Bancroft plays Helene Hanff and Anthony Hopkins plays Frank P. Doel. His wife, Nora Doel, is played by Judi Dench. It is more dialogue than anything else which is to be expected. I think it follows the book quite well. I enjoyed it.

    hi ya,

just wanted to know how are the books i suggested to you going? I've just brought the new Loinal Shriver book, which i'm enjoying. Nothing like 'Kevin' totally different. You should check it out.

What are you read at the mo?

    hi,

Hows it going with the books i choose for you? I hope you are enjoying them. I'm currently reading 'confessions of a common reader' i think you would like it as its a short collection of essays about one woman's love for words and books. Its a great idea i thought.

Once i finish that, which will be tonight, i plan to spend some time reading 'The Discovey of Heaven' which was recommended by a friend i once went to college with, 9 years ago. I've always wanted to read it and lately, while looking around Waterstone's that book kept haunting me to but it, so i gave in and am looking forward to it as it has had great reviews. The book is over 700 pages, so that should keep me somewhat busy for a while.

I can't stop recommending '84 c.cross' to all my friends as it was such a charming book.

Well happy reading and hope to here from you soon.

Well what can i really say about '84 Charing Cross Road"? I'm just so very grateful that you introduced me to it. I loved every bit of it. I read it in one setting. I think its a beauiful way to commicate, one we tend to forget. I love reading letters, but now days its all email.

Any others books you think i might like? Perhaps i should like you choose books for me from now on, as you pulled a cracker for me.

    Thanks

    Hi,
Really like your shelf!! We've read some of the same books--you have some I've read and forgot to add to my shelf--and you have a LOT that I want to read! I also like reading about other cultures, particularly Eastern and Middle Eastern.

Just from looking at your books I'm thinking you would like Barbara Pym. Also, James Lee Burke would be a maybe. He writes mysteries but is not for the faint of heart (but not noir either) What are you reading right now?
