The book is just ok with me. Its all about racism, discrimination, and the way people judge people. I'm surprised the way Scout narrates the story. Its very deep and intelligent. She sounded like smarter than her father on the way she narrates (or it's just the writing style of Harper Lee.lol). I like the character of Atticus. He's booksmart, streetsmart, kind, gentle, silent, tough in his own right, and most especially a loving and caring father to his kids.

I'm the kind of reader that if I already watched the movie version of the novel, I'll not read the novel anymore. I only watch the movie version after I read the novel. However, I've decided to read the book anyway even if I already watched its movie version because I have a plan also to read it's sequel "The Wedding".

After I read the book, it's so sad that I didn't like it. That's the trouble of watching the movie first. I had a hard time appreciating the novel. The characters were boring and the plot seems too fast paced. Anyway, the parts of the story that I like are the poetries and the way Noah expresses his love to Allie. Noah's expression of love can be judged whether its very romantic or obsessed. Compared to other guys, it's so hard to be like him. He's very romantic and can retain his masculinity as well. He's a well rounded guy. He can cook, play a guitar, build a house, write a poem and short stories, use a gun etc. He's a man of many traits or a jack of all trades. A man whom the ladies were looking for. A prince charming. He's also kind, patient, and silent. A silent person but he kills. He kills romantically and not literally.lol

Even though I didn't like the book (or the story itself), it is considered the best story ever made by Nicholas Sparks. The story where the people were touched and cried. One of his best, but not my favorite.

Whew!!! To tell you honestly, when I've read the 1st half of the book I got bored. At first I worried that among many people who loved this book I'm the only one person who'll hate it. However, when I've read the other half of the book I was touched, moved, and amazed as well. Amazed in a way that I also laughed because of the unexpected twist in the ending part of the story. I also like Santiago's (the protagonist) character because of the way he persevered to fulfill his dream or his....PERSONAL LEGEND!!! (may favorite word of the moment. lol).

About dun sa novel mismo, yung story, marami siyang twists. Kakaiba parang digital film. Para din siyang "Jologs" the movie na mas pinagulo pa. It's a story about love (and it's a lot of issues!!!), pain, fantasy, & mostly reality.
Dark comedy ika nga (parang House M.D.hehe). Medyo namulat ako after kong nabasa ito at napa-isip.

    Ano ba ang mas mahalaga?
Pag-ibig na bawal pero masaya ka o
Pag-ibig na tama pero malungkot ka?

    o kaya:

The one you love or the one who loves you?

Yun kasi ang tinatalakay sa novel in my own understanding. It's a never ending issues about love. Maybe some people can't relate to this (and that includes me.hehe) but how about the others who are affected in this kind of issues? Anyway, JUST READ THE BOOK AND I RECOMMEND THIS TO ALL MOST ESP. TO THE YUPPIES OUT THERE. :-)

It is a story of a troubled & wasted teenage boy named Holden Caulfield. A young man who is immature and was resisting to graduate from his innocence. He's also the narrator of the novel. Even if it is a story of an adolescent guy, it is not recommended for teens due to the narrator's way of narrating his story sarcastically and rebelliously and by using vulgar languages. It is originally published for adults unless the young person is mentally mature enough to read the book. A part of me do like the novel because Holden represents the epitome of teenage rebellion which majority of the teenage rebels can relate to him. On the other hand, another part of me don't like the novel because I think the story is immature and incomplete. I believe the novel deserves a sequel even if it's impossible now to do so. Even if it's a best selling book (around 250,000 copies are sold each year, with total sales of more than sixty-five million dollars), it's better that it won't turn into a major motion picture. Just leave it as one of the best novels ever made (accdg to some of the critics).

If you are a Nicholas Sparks fan as you will notice, the storyline is almost similar to the other Sparks' novel "The Rescue" (a man as a "knight in shining armor" to a young single mother & son). The only difference is that in this novel, there's a main antagonist. The main focus on the story is about luck & destiny. I think the author made this novel to let the readers become aware about lucky charms & destiny of love, if it really exists or its just an imagination.

If the author of this book reading this review, I just want to tell him that this novel deserves a major motion picture. A hundred percent sure that I'm going to watch it if that happens. A typical yet good romantic page turner.

Majority of the Filipinos will appreciate this book (also with Noli Me Tangere) after they finished highschool. For me its a little bit of "The Count of Monte Cristo" like novel but with a lots of drama and controversy!!! I like this better because its action packed than the passiveness of Noli Me Tangere.
