"The moon is like a mystery novel, the sun like a motivational self-help book, and the stars a coffee table book of photography. The sky is the whole library, and God the librarian."

    50 Classic Crime Novels (pre-1950)

Thanks for posting your list! You gave me some new ideas. Maybe a list of my own, perhaps. From what I can see and what with which I am familiar, you have made excellent choices.

George Matusek: I have read all the Nero Wolfe mysteries by Rex Stout and have re-read several of them. I think "Fer-de-Lance" is a poor choice to represent the series. The series greatly improves in quality after that first entry. The series greatly improves in quality after that first entry. My favorite is "The Silent Speaker" (1946), in which Nero works to restore the good reputation of Inspector Cramer (with whom he is normally at odds) --- in return for Nero's help, Cramer brings him an orchid as a gift. It is more than merely a good mystery; it is also a great comedy-of-manners with a poignant ending in which Nero accuses Archie of lacking sentiment (Archie regards Cramer's orchid as an inferior gift and suggests discarding it in the trash). The interplay of Nero, Cramer, and Archie is, in my opinion, at its best in "The Silent Speaker." (see more)

Phillip Frey: I too have read all the Nero Wolfe mysteries. It was a long time ago. Thanks to George's comment, it's time for me to read them again.

Never Wipe Your Ass with a Squirrel: A trail running, ultramarathon, and wilderness survival guide for weird folks

There is nothing groundbreaking here but if you are a trail runner, ultra-runner, etc., there are a lot of interesting opinions in this book, and the humorous approach makes for some enjoyable light reading - at the heart of which is the essence and joy of a simple thing - trail running.

    War Year

Haldeman didn't write alot of straight fiction, he pretty quickly moved into the SiFi field and made his name there. This is one of his earliest works and alot of his war experience comes out in the story. Any military person will see all the quirks of serving come out in the book. Good Read,...

    Introducing Rousseau

It's a nimble guide to Rousseau's life, works, and achievements. The graphics distracted me some, but the brevity appealed to me. Best, though, I am now primed and prepared to begin reading Rousseau.

    Viriconium

Not as good as I was led to believe, but, still, the work has remained readable after all these years. Mild Recommendation.
