I am a 39 y.o. at-home mom of a nine-year-old daughter and six-year-old son in northcentral Indiana. I love my babies, but reading is my escape from the world of t-ball, twirling, grade school, and girl scouts--not to mention the whining and begging that go along with being a mom (theirs, not mine--that doesn't count).
My personal TBR shelves are overflowing and I never seem to get them read because my library stack is just as big. It's a classic case of "so many books, so little time". My favorite genre is historical fiction and there probably aren't many hist/fict books in print that I don't own or haven't read. My favorite period is Tudor England, but I'm also partial to the Plantagenets and Colonial and Revolutionary America... I'm an outed fan of chick and mom lit, though I'm pretty selective about what I spend my time reading. If it doesn't have me within 50 pages--it's out! I don't do romances (with the exception of LaVyrle Spencer--Love Her!), mysteries, and most thrillers.
I am a bookaholic and book hoarder. I physically need to have books surrounding me in order to feel truly myself. My favorite places to be are Borders, B&N, and the library among the quiet stacks and stacks of books just waiting to be read. My favorite authors are Jean Plaidy, Margaret George, Anya Seton, Barbara Wood, Philippa Gregory, Beverly Swerling, and Kathryn Lynn Davis and I'll read anything having to do with Gone With the Wind. I read purely for pleasure...I once took a lit class and it was one of the worst things I've ever done to myself.
Please bury me in the library
In the clean, well-lighted stacks
Of Novels, History, Poetry
Right next to the Paperbacks.
Where the Kids' Books dance
With True Romance
And the Dictionary dozes,
Please bury me in the library
With a dozen long-stemmed proses.
Way back by a rack of Magazines,
I won't be sad too often
If they bury me in the library
With Bookworms in my coffin.

If you are a mom, whether you have infants or grandchildren, please check out my Shelfari reading group, "Moms Who Read To Escape Their Weary Lives." We'd love to have you join us! In addition, I have a group called "Guilty (Reading) Pleasures" for us to talk about those unmentionable books we love! I also help out on the Historical Fiction group, so if you love history, check us out! « less
