Just in case you’re not our friend on Facebook, Twitter or on our mailing list, we wanted you know that “It's Official-Uptown Has Landed” and should be on the shelves at bookstores near you! We say should, because, well, lets just say, sometimes they don't make it out of the stockroom in time for their big debut. This is where we need your help. We’ve heard from many friends & readers that they can't find Uptown in their local bookstore. Then we discovered that it's only available by order in most "non-urban" chains (We know exactly what THAT means. Sad, but true, segregation is alive and well in the book store industry.) If you go to look for Uptown and it's not where it should be, first, please ask a sales associate to find it for you. And if they tell you they don't have it, be sure to let us know (even if they offer to order it for you, which is fine)! We need to know the store name and address so we can report it to our publisher. They are looking closely at early sales numbers (a lot like that first weekend at the box office for movies), but if the books aren't out they can't be purchased, so we need to be on top of this! So consider yourselves deputized as the Uptown Patrol!

A book launch is still both exciting and scary, but we're strapped in for the ride. We thank you for continuing to take the ride with us and we look forward to your comments about Uptown.

“Prepare for a steamy, provocative, sexy, turbulent read…”

"Uptown has all the ingredients that offer ardent readers a satisfying read: relatable characters we either love, or love to hate; contemporary issues that are pertinent to those of us who care about our people and our heritage; and a strong believable plot infused with passionate conflict---ALL set in Harlem, a place which still holds the aroma of Langston Hughes' dreams: "What happens to a Dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun . . . or does it explode?"
---Angela Reid, President of Imani Literary Group

"...smart and compelling. ...a novel that is both relevant and entertaining."
    -Publishers' Weekly

"We women battle so much in life, and at times, we give our pasts a home in our present rendering our futures bleak with no room for sunshine. DeBerry and Grant crafted a story that speaks true to the bondage women refuse to let go...Uptown captures its readers in the chaos of family secrets, taking them on a rugged emotional course full of passion and suspense. A provocative read with a lesson on forgiveness, and the beautiful unfolding of self-discovery."
    -SistahFriend Book Club

As always, thank you for your friendship and support.

    Make Merry....

"Better your anger and fears flow like ink from a pen onto the page, or paint onto a canvas, than blood on the sidewalk. Better your blows strike the faces of drums or cords of melody, than the faces and backs of women and children!"

Sorry I’ve been away so long. I’ve been entirely toooooo busy.

Anywhooo, in your Black Romance group, we’ll be reading Protect and Serve by Gwyneth Bolton next and start discussing it on 10 Oct. Now go ahead and purchase Gwen’s book now, even if you plan on reading it late, because it is a Harlequin book and you know they can be difficult to find.

Have you heard about all the fun we had at the 2008 Romance Slam Jam? Well that’s NOTHING compared to what’s coming in 2010.

It’s Romance Slam Jam’s Crystal Anniversary! Our theme is Back to the Future with Rochelle Alers as our keynote speaker! Everyone is Welcome To Join the Romance Slam Jam Crystal Anniversary Celebration Cruise departing from Miami, Florida, Sunday April 10th, 2010. We will be embarking on the five day Carnival Cruise to Ocho Rios, Jamaica and Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands on the “Destiny” Fun Ship.

Gayla, glad you accepted my invite. I'm still trying to figure out my way around Shelfari. I'm thinking of creating a group for the new book so we can talk about it and where I can announce related contests. I have two contests in mind right now that I think you're going to like. I'll keep you posted.
