    A. Michaelson says

Hi, Gamiila. I’m the author of The Sandal Maker, a new novel about the public ministry of Jesus from a unique point of view. A story that will take you on a fascinating journey in first century Galilee. I’m including here the publisher's notes from Amazon.com. You can read samples at shelfari.com by entering the title. Let me know what you think.

    Book Description
Caleb, an elderly Jew, leaves the safety of his home in Cana on a mission to find a man he believes is in Jerusalem. Miriam, Caleb’s only remaining child, accompanies him disguised as a boy. In the desolation of the war struck Galilean countryside, father and daughter risk their lives to journey south on the Jordan River trail. As they walk, Caleb intrigues Miriam with a captivating story of his youth that will change her future destiny. A story of a time forty years prior when he became a sandal maker in order to observe a man some called the Miracle Worker. Caleb secretly kept notes of the events he saw and heard as he followed the crowds. With his objective, skeptical point of view, he reveals the fascinating ministry of the one he called the “Master.” Heart pounding perils and the threat of death endanger the two travelers, but nothing could foretell the fate awaiting them in Jerusalem!

    From the Publisher
    A. Michaelson's new novel, The Sandal Maker, takes the reader on a fascinating journey back to the year 70 A.D. in worn torn Palestine. The author creatively weaves two stories together, one in the present, the other in the past. Heartwarming, enlightening and tragic, The Sandal Maker paints a portrait of one man's life and his involvement in how the gospel came to be.

Sorry, extremely sorry my dear Hedwig !!! for taking so long to answer.
I'm hitting my English gram books right now because on Friday I'm sitting the final exam (the writing part). Last Thursday I took my oral examination with two schoolmates: summary of a short text, personal experience about the topic and on top of that, a 15 minutes debate !! I felt as though I was in the D day with hordes of enemies waiting to beat me down hehehehe.

Well, I will get the marks June, 25, so get your fingers crossed for me !!

    Hi Hedwig !!
Nice avatar! You're georgeous!! Your look reminds me of exquisite Sean Young in 'Blade Runer', doesn't it?
Yeah, I've been studying really hard and fortunatelly I passed all my languages exams (first term continuous assessment). I have also been all in and got a nasty bug, the worst ever flu in my whole life! Now spring is coming and my nervous system is a bit on the dumps as usual in this period of the year.
Refrerring to my husband's shoulder, he has bursitis and tore up joints and muscles... the poor thing has been suffering in total agony with his shoulder in sling but right now he's on the mend. I agree with your orthopaedic doctor but my stubborn hubby has no patience at all and he is making my life a misery LOL ... but I'm used to it!
I hope you are having a 'gelukig jaar' with your new work in the bank and you are making new friends among your colleagues. How are you faring?? Are you coping with the predictable and ordered things at work? Tell me everything you want... remember, I offer my shoulder if you need to cry or complain.
Well, I need going again to study and plan meals for the day (sighs).
    Take in touch
and have a great reading week !!

    My dear Hedwig,
From the bottom of my heart I wish you a blessed happy Xmas Day and great Holiday Season. FELIZ NAVIDAD Y PROSPERO AÑO NUEVO !!!
I talk you sooner... now over here it's the Xmas Eve Party: with 'turrones', 'polvorones' (sweet dessert) zambombas, flautas y almirez (Xmas typical instruments). I'll keep you in my mind: MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!!!
    Your Spanish friend,
    Elisabeth

    I 'd like to

    create these days,

    a huge Christmastree

    very special

and I'd put on it instead of gifts

    the names

of all my friends. Those very close to me

and you, Diana so far away. My forever friends and

    you always.

I meet with some every day but you, I miss you

    so so much.

Someone I always remember and I forgot a few from time to time.

The reliable and the absent-minded. Friends of happy times

and other of rough times. Those never again will I hurt

and those that I have been hurt sometimes. Those I got to know deeply

and those that I've just met once and judge by

    appearance.

Those who owed me something and those that I owe them a lot.

The humble friends and the VIP friends.

That's the reason I name all of them, every friend in my whole life

You, who will get this message and they who never get it.

A tree with deep roots because your names will never be unroot out.

A tree which will blossom next year for you all, with happiness, health, love and peace.

I wish I could have gone to you so that I could have shared my hearfelt wishes of hope, generousity,

    cheerfulness,

    warm-hearted thoughts

    of joy for everybody who

    has lost everything.

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

The same thing happened to me with 'Proust and the Squid'. Even though I found what the author had to say very interesting, I too felt that I had got the message already by the time I was about 100 pages into the book. The rest of the book was a drag.

    Howdy Hedwig!
It's me ... at last I am on-line again. For a few days my computer was freezing and it eventually crashed due to a heavy virus. I hope the absent-minded Internet gods allow me to contact with you.

Thanks a bunch for your positive thoughts about my elder daughter. She's going over at full speed on the path of health. Fortunately she's thick-skinned and strong-willed.

Hey!! lucky one you !! Please, do you mind writing your comments on your new job? Is it well-paid with perks and good pension scheme? Is it a lovely atmosphere and nice colleagues? I hope so... anyway, changes are always good in our life and crisis isn't so bad in a spiritual or mental level it's a challenge for everyone.

Oh dear! I'm worn-out today! We put all Xmas gizmos and items in our house, but this year we don't light bulbs, tree or 'crèche' owing to the energy's crisis. Unlike our government wasting electricity in streets and big stores. I watched on TV-news the outrageous outlay in Dubai with the new hotel's aperture: 20 million dollars in a few hours !! Unbelievable!!

Well, sorry for being too late in replying your lovely note. As much I wish to talk with you, less time have I !
    Big hugs and love
    from your busy friend,
    Elisabeth

    Hola, ¿qué tal amiga Hedwig?
Thanks for your lovely note and for thinking of me.
This month I feel a bit down, in the dumps cause my elder daughter, Susana, who was expecting her first baby ... had a miscarriage just before her birthday October 4th.
Anyway, she is a young woman -25 y.o.- and she's happyly married to a hard-working, consenstious and caring man -a lecturer in Barcelona University with Maths degree.

I felt so sad when I heard about Paul Newman passed away three weeks ago!
Oh yeah, Heston was my favourite actor when I was a child ... but in my teens I fell in love for Newman. I remember the former in this movie you have told about, 'The Cid Campeador' and the latter in 'Dulce Pájaro de Juventud' or 'El Gran Golpe' with Redford. Good memories, sweet memories !

No problem about your reading scope. Take it easy and enjoy your Spanish lessons throughoughly. I'm glad you've been on holiday but at the same time I am extremely sorry that you lost your job ... but I am bound that you will find inmediately a great one cause you aren't afraid of new challenge and situations. You're a brave woman, a knight-to-be can't smirk at bad times :-)

Keep in touch as soon as you can.
You are in my heart and in my thoughts.
    Your spanish friend,

    Querida Hedwig:
¿Qué tal van las cosas? Lamento mucho la tardanza en responder a tu precioso mail, but things here have been a bit hectic with the school "rentrée" ('la vuelta al cole' as we say).
Indeed, it's amazing how time goes by and without practice we lost fluently speaking and sure also the ability of thinging in a foreign language. It reminds me of my teen years when I succeeded in dreaming in French, my teacher told me I was "en el buen camino". It aren't "mi penseos" but 'mis pensamientos en palabras'.

Interesting what you said about computer and you. Yeah, internet is a wonderful way to keep in touch with people with different cultures and style of life. I went once to the US and I was surprised to find so warm, welcoming and respectful Americans, they are good nature. Please, don't take offence ! Many countries are typical topics of their culture and also on TV reportages and on the press, somebody gets prejudices, generalisation and ill information. Unfortunately it is often the voices of politicians and people with hidden agendas that makes the news. It is a shame, but who can blame the world at large for having totally the wrong impression about any country when the media dramatizes and skews reports so much.

Ough! Myself??? It's difficult to tell about! Well, I'll try... I am a very normal person too, people think that I'm a savvy person, generous, too sensitive ... I had to grow a thick skin or I would have got hurt too many times. My hobbies/interests, of course apart from an omnivore reader, are gardening, play and teach the piano, singing (but I have a bad voice, shrill and lurid LOL); amateur writing (gothic tales and erotic short stories) in Spanish; my only sport is swimming since I have muscular distrophy and structural spine problems (sigh)... I would have loved dancing ... oh! when I was young I used to ride the weekends and now my vet has a cottage with a few horses, sometimes my daughter and I went to short rides. How wonderful to be a knight ! I was an aficionado of Arthurian legends and I've read a lot of books and right now I love swashbuckler stories, especially applied in the "Siglo de Oro Español". I wish I could learn fencing !!

The subjects I prefer are history, art, music, psychology, anthropology, medicine, world literature and physics (specially quantic physic)... but I am a layman except in music and psychology (I was graduated from Liceo of Barcelona, the state music professional studies and I am trying to finish my degree in psyc.)
So we have some stuff in common and I'm very glad !
Have a great reading weekend !
