First We Read, Then We Write: Emerson on the Creative Process 1st (first) Edition by Richardson, Robert D. (2009)

This was a great exploration of Emerson's opinions on reading, writing, speaking, the universe, and who we are as people. It felt as though I was carrying on a discourse with Emerson himself. Short of reading his actual journals, I found this to be a highly educational book and as close as I...

This was a great exploration of Emerson's opinions on reading, writing, speaking, the universe, and who we are as people. It felt as though I was carrying on a discourse with Emerson himself. Maybe it is because I do not find it easy to relate to the main character or maybe it is that the childhood depicted is too far removed from my own. I'm not...

I cannot pin why I do not like this book. The concept of the kids making up their own religion is hotly contentious and very compelling. Maybe it is because I do not find it easy to relate to the main character or maybe it is that the childhood depicted is too far removed from my own. I'm not sure, but overall, this book just did not strike a chord with me. It's a fairly well written book with some depth and it explores a trite topic in an unusual way, so I do believe that other readers would enjoy it.

    Elizabeth Cottrell - "RiverwoodWriter"
