I am married with three grown and almost grown children (22, 18, 16.) I have always enjoyed reading. I like to read suspense novels with a little romance thrown in for good measure (Iris Johansen and Nora Roberts are favorites.) I also read a LOT of youth fiction. I do a "Can You Outread Mrs. Gonzales" every grading period with my middle... more »

Yes, I read one about the submarine from WWII--Seemed like Title is something like "Dark Morning"--a really good adventure book as they seek to find a WWII Japanese sub that was sunk, becuase it has surprise cargo headed for the West US Coastline. I like his suspense and he keeps you going with events...if you like adventure stuff then its worth looking at his stuff

    Hi Teresa,
I haven't read it yet-it's in my mountainous TBR stack:) But normally, if a book doesn't grab me by 50 pages in I quit it. So I'd say if you're not getting into it then stop and pick another.

A really good action/modern suspense novel and easy reading is "The Navigator" by Clive Cussler...I bought it at Walgreens/Dierbergs store for about $6 paperback. It is good example of many adventure mystery type works. I think middle school students who are up on Egyptian/early times history and certainly high school students could read it and enjoy it. Not any bedroom (dang!) scenes, mostly subtle only. I find it a somewhat slower read than expected. Another is "Lincoln" by McPherson...only about 90 pages but best short bio around...hope your school year is going well. I don't get to do that anymore....(smiling)..Best to you...

Wow...u have a full plate for summer. I really know that story. When teaching, I used to look forward to kicking back and reading that bio of an important historical figure, but alas...lot of things were in the way. First, finishing masters, then phd...now retired I expected to have time. Even joined book club from church. Have done well with that keeps me reading up to date NY Times stuff...."Girl with...Tattoo" was one, that is a good one! There is a trilogy on that, too. But, also do stamp exhibiting and am now just about spending every day working on desk top publishing stuff with stamps and covers (and all the detective work involved with that, its 5 am here), so guess what? I don't have time to read what I have on my bookcase shelf that were my TR pile! A hobby of mine is to read bio of every modern president and some not so modern. Oh well...but have been into Lincoln, since this is 200th BD...some great things and reading them for Literary Society on ole Abe. So, don't feel alone--but you can get in a book or two on some weekends when family life slows down. Have been where you are and it does leave some good periods of free time. Best in your quest!

I have just reviewed the books on your shelf and I must say I am insired to pick up a William Monk Novel by Anne Perry. We have read some of the same books and you have read some I have wanted to read, but not fit into my schedule yet... That said, I have never read any Anne Perry. Sounds like fun.

I have read all of them as well. I just haven't had the time to really add much to my shelfari shelf yet. I have many books on my shelf at home (yes, ones I have already read) that I would love to add and rate. The time will come.

No, I haven't read any of Penelope Stokes. I'll go on over and check it out on your bookshelf and see what I think. I hope you have a nice ride tomorrow. I don't know what our weather will be like. I haven't checked. Today it was rainy most of the day and wasn't as warm as it has been lately. Who knows, maybe I'll get a chance to go out tomorrow. We'll see.

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. How has your riding been going this summer? I haven't gotten much in yet. When we go with groups and take our kids I end up having to drive the minivan so we can camp, but my husband gets to ride his motorcycle. Hopefully soon I will get to ride.
