That would be a hard one to answer because while I might not like a book, that doesn't necessary make it bad. It would be easier to tell you books I just hated because they didn't appeal to me. Some of those are Catcher in the Rye, On the Road, Carrie, Cujo. The only book in the Twilight series I really didn't like was Breaking Dawn. It matters to me if the characters change and if I change because of the book. I don't want to be the same person after I read a book. I want something that the author has written to have changed me. That's how I know it's a good book, if that makes any sense.

What about you? What books have you hated? And what genre are you interested in writing?

If uou are interested in the print copies of the novels, you might be able to get them on my website, which is mariarachelhooley.com. This will take you to the createspace store for each book. I'm just not really sure how that works outside the United States.

I will send you PDFs of those two books if you email me because there is no way to attach them to a Shelfari note. My email address is mariahooley@sbcglobal.net. If you go down to the bottom of Amazon's webpage, look for a an option that says "Self-publish" with Amazon. It should show how to self publish for both the Kindle and Createspace, which is what I use.

To be honest, I am doubting they are. I publish through Amazon so I'm not sure how that works. That said, if there is one you are interested it, let me know and I will send it in a pdf form that you can read on the computer.

The name of the novel is Sojourner. It's about a teenage girl who falls in love with an angel. It's like Twilight because there are a lot of similarities in the story, not because it's a vampire book. If you go to youtube and search for mariahooley1, it should bring it up. Or, if you look at my author page here, I've posted it as well.

The Only Life is actually one of the novels that has a bit of personal basis in that I do have a child who is autistic. My daughter, however, is very much alive and wonderful. It came about because there are so many times when things get difficult and at times I find myself saying, "If only I had a normal life." Then it occurred to me that for that to happen, I would have to lose Taylor, which is unthinkable.

If you go to my author page, you can see the list. Right now a lot of them are still for the Kindle, but the list is growing. I am hopefully getting ready to release a novel into print that a lot of readers compare to Twilight. That is if the cover will cooperate. The best thing I can tell you is to experiment in different genres because all of them help. The one that probably helped me most was poetry because it really tightened my writing, and it was the first area that I started building publication credits. When you feel ready, start looking for contests to enter and find other writers who you can workshop your writing with. That is critical because you need a sounding board to find out where there is a problem and how to make the story better. Other writers can see the story with fresh eyes. A good site to join is writersmarket.com because you not only have the market listings, but you also have a great community where you can meet writers and find others who might be willing to start up a critique group.

If you love fantasy, you will llove The Last Unicorn. It's about the last unicorn looking for her people. A magician ends up turning her into a human and she falls in love before she is turned back into a unicorn to rescue her people. Thus she is the only unicorn who has ever known what regret is.

    I also love Nicholas Sparks.

wow. pretty hard to answer! :)) but i'd have to say that in terms of play of words, i absolutely admire ashleigh brilliant. he writes in a hundred words or less coupled with interesting illustrations about life's truthful (albeit sometimes offensively frank to some) ironies. you should look him up if you haven't read him or heard of him. :)

    anyway, who's yours? :)
