Well, I think you said you'd read "A Child Called It". "A Boy Called Dave" is pretty much more of the same, only less intensely depressing.

A friend of mine had Dave Pelzer come to her college and speak. She said he said some things were "fabricated" and "exaggerated." I read all of his books and found them to be terribly sad. Then when I realized they weren't 100% true I felt like he was a freak for making stuff up. Who would do that? Then I guess his brother jumped on the bandwagon and wrote a book as well. They are good books but keep in mind that they might not be 100% true in some areas.

    Hi Katie R.
A Piece of Cake was great!! It's a great book. It's an autobiography about a woman named Cupcake Brown. She's an attorney who's been thru drugs, rape, abuse and became an outstanding attorney.

Thanks for the book information. Yeah, I have met a lot of Wiccans so I just wanted to do some more research. Is there much variation within the practice? I am Christian and I know that there can be big differences when you go between denominations.

I was tickled by the opening to your profile, and because you took the time to respond with suggestions to my request for ideas on books about emotional abuse.

Sadly I haven't been able to leave this continent yet. My husband has been to England. We have a friend that teaches at Oxford. I haven't been to New York, but would love to go. I am one of those people who yearns to travel, but life always seems to stop me.

Thanks for the friend invite. Your profile says that you would like to do a year abroad in Canada or USA. Where are you from? I can't wait to visit places other than the USA. I am going to France in 2009.

My favorite science fiction book is Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. I first read it 19 years ago and I've read it a few times over the years; it has remained my favorite.

And if you do like it, it's actually the beginning of a whole series of books. I think there are 8 novels plus a few short stories and a novella.

In brief, the human race is preparing to defend itself against a second invasion of aliens known as "buggers." Exceptional children are identified and sent into space to battle school. Ender Wiggin is one of these children and may be their best hope.

Card is an excellent author. After reading Ender's Game, I compulsively sought out anything else he had written and I've continued to do so.

    I hope you try it!
