I've been on a very long bout of fluff reading - especially fluffy niche mysteries. I won't apologize for that. I figure it is better for me to be reading than to not be reading because the books I... more »

  • Summer of Roses
    • Rated 4 stars

The follow up to Summer's Child, this book continues the story of Lily and Rose and their relationships with Liam, Maeve, Nanny the whale and more. It is the usual heartwarming yet at times heart wrenching tale that is typical of Rice's books. If you enjoy Rice you will enjoy these two books.

Another fun installment in the China Bayles mysteries. If you've enjoyed the previous ones you'll enjoy this one as well.

  • Aunt Dimity's Christmas (Aunt Dimity (Paperback))

Just as fun as the previous books in this mystery. I think what I love most about this series is that Lori Shepherd really comes across as a normal gal who gets jealous and misses her husband and gets frustrated with taking care of twins for two examples.

  • Dragonwell Dead (Tea Shop Mysteries)
    • Rated 3 stars

This 8th installment in the Tea Shop Mysteryies featuring Indigo Tea Shop's proprietor, Theodosia Browning is much like the ones before. If you've enjoyed the previous seven books in the series you will likely enjoy this one as well.

  • Electric Blue (Jane Kelly Mysteries)
    • Rated 3 stars

If you liked Candy Apple Red I think you'll find Electric Blue enjoyable as well. In this one, Jane Kelley is much more "Information Specialist" and less of a process server. She still has witty and humorous internal dialog and as usual her personal life is a bit of a mess.

The second installment in the China Bayles adventures was as enjoyable as the first. In this one we see China start to grow a bit in her personal life which added some nice depth to a genre that doesn't always see that. I am excited to continue this series.

  • How Nancy Drew Saved My Life (Red Dress Ink)
    • Rated 3 stars

Despite it taking me forever to get through this book, it was an interesting read. I had the audible version and the narrator just didn't really cut through the pillow speaker, which is the main way I listen to audiobooks. Though I suspect if the book had been really stellar I would have found excuses to listen to it on the stereo or through regular headphones. But I wouldn't hesitate to give other books by this author a try.

  • Blood Country (Wwl Mystery)
    • Rated 4 stars

A former MSP police detective runs away from her problems in the city to a small little country town on the Wisconsin side of the border. Just as she begins to let her guard down and feel "normal" her world is turned upside down again when her neighbor is found dead in his garden and another neighbor has his birds tortured. Now she fears her entire family is in danger.

This books was much, mush better than I was expecting. I really enjoyed it.

  • The Case of the Roasted Onion (Berkley Prime Crime Mysteries)
    • Rated 3 stars

A fun horse-centered cozy. The first in a new series by the author of the Hemlock Falls series. Hemlock Falls gets a few nods in this book, but I have not read them yet and I don't believe it spoiled anything not being familiar with them. Given the name, I was expecting a food-centered cozy and that wasn't the case here, but it was still enjoyable.

  • Crime Brulee (Culinary Mysteries (Paperback))
    • Rated 4 stars

An refreshing change for foodie cozies! Here, the detective is a food critic who used to cook often, but now enjoys traveling and dining out much better. This book was a fun look at touring and eating in New Orleans. The mystery element was well done for a cozy. Enjoyable, and I'll be trying out the others in this series.
