    Greetings fginzbur,

I didn't intend for the word "plagiarism" to be so volatile for all of us who love Shakespeare so well. I merely repeat the word used by a Harvard University professor who also loved Shakespeare and taught it well.

I agree that what Shakespeare did in his writing of plays can be compared with the presentation of old movies redone. In some defense of the poor, unwitting professor's use of the word "plagarism," I must say that they were actual plays that Shakespeare reworked. They were not just folk-tales or themes. He worked directly from the plays written by others. Again, this is no criticism of Shakespeare - God Forbid.

    Greetings fginzbur,
I am enlisting the help of my Shelfari friends. I would like Shelfari to make it possible for us to tag the books on the Reading List as we do for our shelf. I use this list to keep track of books I own but haven't yet read. Tagging them would prevent purchasing the same book twice and would allow us, at a glance, to see what books we own. If you think this is a good idea, would you, please, send Shelfari a message suggesting this change? If enough of us ask maybe they will do this for us.

I think my notebook just freaked out and emailed you, though I was going to copy and paste it to your page. When I say fool, I'm not referring to Puck as a fool, not literally. Shakespeare's fools are always insightful, and in my opinion, smarter than their superiors. But like the king's fools, Puck is there to make Oberon laugh. Puck is supposed to be comical, but ironically, he is not a fool, though some would disagree. He just makes honest mistakes, he he.

    Hi fginzbur,
How are you doing? I just wrote an opinion on one of the books on your shelf Virginia Woolf's A Room of One's Own. I love that book. What are you reading now?

    Hi fginzbur,
I see we share several books, but the title " A Short history of Tractors in Ukrainian " made me laugh aloud so I added it to my wish list. Now I have looked it up and it seems even more appealing - do you have any comments?

    Hi fginzbur,
I saw a very interesting book on your shelf The Last Days of Socrates. Is it as good as it sounds? I still shudder when I think of hemlock. It sounds weird but I thought about poor Socrates while I was on Chemo.

Thanks for answering my question about books similar to Jane Eyre. I think I'm going to grab a copy of the Tenant of Wildfell Hall. I was an English major at college and we read Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights several times, but Anne's works were pretty much ignored which is a shame. Tenant of Wildfell Hall sounds very good, so I am excited. Thanks so much:)

I had a great thanksgiving! Just hanging out with family in Sonoma. How's Stanford? Any new plans for the coming year? Drop me an email if you want to grab lunch next week, I'll be in Palo Alto at least a few days.

I have three bookshelves of books which I have aquired, all still to read. Right now, when I finish one, I close my eyes and pick another. One would think I could make some headway, but then I keep going to book sales!

Thank you for adding me as a friend. Are the books on your wish list books you wished you owned, or books you wish to read? I haven't figured out what to put on mine yet. So many books to get to! Probably works by Dorothy Sayers other than her mysteries, but I have to hunt down the titles.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I will start with the Count of Monte Cristo. :o)
We've read a lot of the same classic novels but I don't think you've read Barchester Towers by Anthony Trollope. You might want to give it a try! If you want a more contemporary classic, read The Stand by Stephen King. Even if you don't like SK, this is an amazing book.

I would read more romance if it was all as good as Jane Austen's. But I'm afraid it is now a genre best avoided...

Thank you!!! You have many, many more books than I do. I always think "I AM GOING TO HAVE MORE BOOKS!" but I work at a library, so it feels useless.

    I envy your collection!
