Rather fun, but it loses a whole star for containing so much Rita. Book-Rita is even more utterly unbearable than TV-Rita; her start-stop-start-stop dialog gives me a headache. At least this book's Dexter isn't as whiny as in some other volumes.

(Audible audiobook version that came with 'Fuzzy Nation' by John Scalzi)

    Definitely worth the read.

I'm about 1/5 into this book and it's already adorable and fun. This is one of the few YA-style books I've been able to stand in the last few years; the writing style is definitely growing on me.

Most of the way through now. Had you told me a week ago that a sci-fi court drama could be this delightful, I'd have laughed. But this is great fun, especially the plot twists. I definitely want a pet Fuzzy.

Almost to the end. The conclusion of the 'witness testimony' made me go to a private place and cry. This is a beautiful book and the author should be very proud.

"Get off my planet, you son of a bitch." This should have been the final line, because it is the greatest. Unfortunately, the book drags on a little longer, but I won't hold that against it. Altogether, I adore this book and am happy to 'favorite' it.

What I didn't know is that after it concludes, the Audible audiobook includes the original, Little Fuzzy. I can't wait to listen to the original and compare them.

Rarely have I started a book with more annoyance than being promised Modern Dracula and then presented with this whiny white woman. She spends the first few pages yammering about her first-world problems, to the point that it's a struggle to get through.

All of the characters were great and likeable, even the villains. I'm looking forward to the second book.

Very well-written and organic, with a lot of historical, cultural, and political information. I feel like I actually understand the ongoing conflict now. This is a must-read.

By the end of the first chapter, I knew this was a template Hero's Journey story, complete with Farmboy and elderly Mentor characters. I made it about halfway through, utterly confused about which character was which, before giving up.

The middle half tends to drag; at points, I was nearly at the point of giving up. However, the last quarter comes back around to blow my mind. This is a worthy sequel to the incredible spectacle of the first Hyperion novel, and I plan on checking out the third.

The audiobook was very cool; the narrator switches between Austrian and Glasgow accents fluidly.

I was initially worried about reading a YA book, but this turned out to be one of the few exceptions that has an interesting plot, cool characters, and some great action.

The beginning is stunning, but I feel that the middle gets mired in a somewhat mundane mystery, while the ending is one long denouement.
