FatherOfHollywood

I was raised in Manhattan Beach, California, a stone's throw from Hollywood. I went to college at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in the early 1970’s and spent the years after college traveling around the country and the world, writing short stories and working for South Bay Magazine. I have been awarded top honors in national writing competitions.... more »

    Eclectic Book Club Peeps:

All righty, let's have those nominations for our next big read. What's everyone in the mood for?

Post your selections in the "Genres" thread and we'll hash it out. If that takes too much energy, I will put all genres nominated in a hat and pick one at random!

Sounds like you are going to have a good time. Hopefully you will see some names and pictures that will help you in your second book.
I have started my usual round of surgeons for yearly checkup. have to go to the hospital next Tuesday for a test that will take about 1 hour. geesh. Oh well as my neighbor said, who drove me down, they are only trying to keep you from having a stroke or heart attack. I just told her they can think all they want I do not have time for either. Hope you and your family are all in good health.

hope your sequel is coming along OK. I have a neighbor that when we get together it is amazing just how many of the old time movie stars we can remember. Ah those were the days of good acting, good movies. Where has the art of making good movies gone. There are so few good actors and actresses today. Seems that opening scene of two falling into bed and roaming and gropping makes a film?????????

I enjoyed the trailer, irrespective of your search for the "Father of Hollywood"! Those who I think would do a great job are Leonardo DiCaprio, Kevin Spacey and Tom Hanks. I apologize for not having read the book yet (I'm caught between reviewing and book clubs!) and will have a better idea of who might be good after that.

Someone else you might consider is the guy who played Truman Capote in "Capote" - what was his name? He is a brilliant actor, in my humble opinion....Oh! Philip Seymour Hoffman! Didn't he win the Oscar for that role?

It is really hard to decide. You don't want to go too handsome, so that leads all my favorite actors out. Tom Hanks would be an OK choice. There are others I do not recall seeing that would be good as well. Joe Flanigan, Ben Affleck, David Arquette, and Alec Baldwin could be suitable. Matthew Broderick might be an interesting choice. He has the 'All American' hunk type looks, but doesn't fall to far in that category ether. It really is hard to suggest an actor... It really depends on which direction you want this movie to go.

Great slide show over on YouTube. I agree with a couple of the other posters--the line-up, although A List, isn't seasoned enough to pull it off. Hopkins is (and would be) brilliant. If you are looking for an actor to be the FOH as a younger man...That's tough. Although your line-up has a wide variety of actors, some with great talent (and others who can't act their way out of a paper bag with one end open), many of them have a certain "type" association that knocks them out of the running (or should). But, whomever you choose would need to complement your older actor. I have a friend who is in casting. You should hit her up about it. Do you have a Facebook account? I can put you two in touch.

What great news. side bar did you finish your second book yet?
Now as to your request. I have not tried as yet as I have more fun in trying to copy/paste those http's into my search engine and I usually need to do it from my keyboard which is a chore in itself.
I have no idea right now whom to even state to play some of the great movie stars of the past as right now we do not have real movie stars. If most movies did not open with a jump in the bed it would never get made. or so full of silly conversation that would embarass a 4 year old. Todays so called stars are so far and few inbetween it is difficult. Most of those that were really good are either gone or have diliberating diseases.
