Funny and enjoyable romp through one woman's journey of self-discovery. Can get a little raw in some places (F bombs drop pretty freely), so it ain't for the faint of heart when it comes to gritty descriptions of someone's real life experiences with angst and self-loathing, but I found that to be part of the books' charm. Definitely a book for current or former New Yorkers, or the people that love them :-)

Suprisingly enjoyable read (I thought I would find it boring given its nod to Laura Bush . . someone who I never found to be a particularly interesting public figure). Good dialogue, decent writing, and actually wets your appetite to know more about the real Laura Bush's life.

This is probably my least favorite of the four book saga. It did a decent job of resolving all of the conflicts and open issues raised by the prior three books, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't get a little weird and (uncharacteristically) gory in places. Meyers resolved the world of challenges for her characters, but there was just a little extra "ummpfff" missing for me in this one. A decent enough conclusion, but in terms of the enjoyment factor, the prior three were better.

This was awesome . . probably my favorite of the four books (with Twilight being a close second). Same comments as the other two -- author is a solid technical writer, but ranks off the charts in terms of her storytelling and character development skills. You really and truly dissolve into the world she creates for her characters. The main character, Bella, gets annoying at times, but for the most part you can tolerate it for the sake of enjoying her romance with Edward.

Once again, was hooked in pretty quickly with this second in the four book series. Missed Edward a lot, but his absence was necessary to keep this intriguing storyline going. An appropriate follow-up to Twilight.

Before I saw the movie, I was squarely in the "I don't get it" camp when it came to this book. The movie was a light, but fun romance that hooked me enough to want to know what happens next. Figured I'd start with the actual first book and was pleasantly suprised that I was able to get into the story this time. The author is very obviously a huge fan of Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters and the like, as the romantic tension in this book (and the following two) is unreal. The author is not a great technical writer, but she tells a heck of a story. I would definitely be interested to see what she writes after this series.

well written, and very interesting read. Author has an amazing command of language and dialect. Also loved the way he weaved supernatural elements into a historically based story.

Good read. This is definitely more than your run of the mill "chick lit." I think of this as a more mature (30 to 40 something) and darker older sister to The Girl's Guide to Hunting and Fishing. The author was wiling to let her characters' (particularly the protagonist's) lives be messy and complicated. She also did a good job of using subtle foreshadowing to move the story along. I look forward to seeing what else Ms. Adams writes.

Hilarious IF you, like me, don't subscribe to the age of extreme parenting. The next in her childrearing memoir series (Nap Time is the New Happy Hour) is just as great.

This was an interesting read once I got into it (about 30 pages in). The book is reminscent of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe in its offbeat humor mixed with a form of science fiction/fantasy. But, the characters were pretty flat, and I found it hard to care about what was going to happen next until at least half way through the book. This is the first in a series, so perhaps it gets better with each book. Long story short -- I like the idea of the book, but the execution was tiring.
