Madeline Deveridge is quite aware of the epithet with which Society has marked her. They call her 'Wicked Widow' after her husband's death a year ago; convinced that Madeline shot her husband, and then set her house on fire to cover the crime. When Madeline's maid is kidnapped in front of the infamous Dream Pavilions, Madeline summons Artemas Hunt - the brilliant and reclusive master of arcane talents and secret owner of London's pleasure pavilions.

Convinced that her husband's ghost is somehow involved, Madeline blackmails Artemas into providing help. Once their bargain is struck, Madeline and Artemas begin to realize that the 'ghost' poses a very real threat. Now they must plunge into a world of intrigue and the ancient mysteries of a secret society to match wits with a calculating killer. I loved this regency romance and give it five stars.

  • Malcolm'S Honor (Historical, 519)
    • Rated 4 stars

Malcolm le Farouche had earned the epithet of "The Fierce" because of his reputation as the greatest knight in the land. As the King's Protector, he doesn't believe Elinore of Evenbough when she says she has no knowledge of her father's treasonous plans. Even when she fights to defend his men in an ambush, heals an injured knight in his service, then turns around and poisons him and his men to make her escape.

By royal command, on pain of death, Elin is forced to marry Malcolm once they reach London to ensure that Evenbough is in trusted hands. However, how could Elin prove her continued innocence when there is an attempt made on Malcolm's life?

I give this medieval romance four stars. I liked it and it was well worth the read, although it annoyed me a little that Malcolm was so distrusting of Elin.

All her life, Olivia Moreland has denied her psychic abilities, preferring instead to use her talents to debunk false psychics. When Stephen St. Leger comes to her for help in debunking a psychic that has targeted his mother, she cannot deny the feeling of deja vu she has after their first meeting.

Stephen St. Leger returns to England after a decade in America to inherit his title on his elder brother's death. After he mistakes Olivia Moreland as an accomplice at a seance, he requests her help in investigating 'Madame Valenskaya' - a psychic who claims his home is haunted by a medieval family named Scorhill.

When Olivia travels to Blackhope Hall - the St. Leger family home - to investigate, she begins to have strange dreams of starcrossed lovers who lived four hundred years before the Scorhill family and also begins to feel an evil presence at Blackhope. After she and Stephen share a dream and attend a possessive seance, they both have to admit that something more unusual is happening quite apart from Madame Valenskaya's story of the 'Martyrs of Blackhope'. I loved this book. I thought it was a very sweet romance with lots of wonderful intrigue thrown in. I give it five stars!

  • Penelope & Prince Charming (Leisure Historical Romance)
    • Rated 5 stars

This is the story of Prince Damien of Nvengaria, who, as the result of a magical prophecy, journeys to England in search of a princess to marry in order to unite his kingdom. He finds the woman of his dreams in Miss "Twice-a-Jilt" Penelope Trask. Now the question is, in the midst of multiple assassination attempts, wild magic, and in the face of overwhelming desire, can the most famous lover in all of Europe convince this infuriating country miss that they are meant for each other?

I found this book to be a very sweet regency romance. It is the first book of the Nvengaria series & I am definitely going to look for other books in the series! I give it five stars.

  • The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer: My Life at Rose Red

The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer: My Life at Rose Red

by Ellen Rimbauer, Joyce Reardon, Stephen King
    • Rated 5 stars

In 1910, Ellen marries Seattle oil magnate John Rimbauer. Her husband builds Ellen a palatial new mansion she calls Rose Red. After a horrible crime takes place at the construction site, the house becomes infected with evil.

Living in an increasingly unhappy marriage with a man who mentally abuses her, Ellen turns to her African maid, Sukeena, for companionship and comfort. She also immerses herself in the continued construction of Rose Red. As the house gets 'stronger', people begin to die or disappear within her walls and Ellen becomes possessed and obsessed with Rose Red.

I loved this book because I thought that it was extremely scary and intriguing to see Ellen slowly go mad. I give it five stars.

This is the first novel of the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series. This is the story of Wrath - the last purebred vampire left on earth and King of his people. He is the essentially blind leader of a band of six lethal warriors known as the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Together, these warriors hunt the Lessening Society - the souless vampire slayers who murdered Wrath's parents centuries ago.

Wrath is stunned when a fellow warrior - Darius - asks him to protect and guide Darius' halfbreed daughter - a supposed orphan - into a heritage of which she has no knowledge. Beth Randall has been suffering inexplicable chills and hunger pangs that she cannot satify. She also can not deny the instant attraction she feels for Wrath when she meets him. Now, as Beth nears the precipice of her change the only one who can help her is Wrath.

I loved this paranormal romance debut from a terrific author and will be looking for more books from this series. I give it five stars!

    Speaks the Nightbird

    by Robert McCammon
    • Rated 5 stars

In the Carolinas just before the end of the 17th century, the citizens of the colony of Fount Royal are terrified. What with unexplained crop failures, multiple murders and arson, they believe that their town has been cursed. To that end, the citizens put Rachel Howarth - the exotic widow of the town's recently murdered minister - in gaol and charge her with murder and witchcraft.

Judical Magistrate Isaac Woodward, and his clerk, Matthew Corbett, arrive to preside over the case and they become increasingly more suspicious of the happenings in Fount Royal. As the case becomes even more heated, Isaac and Matthew eventually face off on opposite sides of the case with regards to Rachel's innocence. Before she is perhaps wrongfully executed, Matthew must find out who or what wants to destroy Fount Royal and see Rachel Howarth burn.

I give this historical mystery five stars because it is quite an interesting plot. I loved it!
