It was a twisted road to reading in my life. Children were not encouraged to read in my house, so it was an accidental stop at the small community library. I thought I was doing something wrong! The librarian showed me around, gave me a card ( I sure wish I still had that as a keepsake), and I felt like I as important!

It won't let me send private messages. Kiki Strike is the best book ever written!! Have you read my review? The book is so well written so that it is clever. It is so exciting from the very beginning to the very end! Action keeps on happening and never stops! Anyway, I also love the Uglies series. Tithe is another series, but I haven't read it yet. I can't remember a lot of the books I've read, that is why my shelf is so empty. I have actually read many more books than that. I don't really worry about it though, I just put my favorite books of all time, the worst books of all time, and random books that I could remember. XD I focus more on my plan to read list, looking for good books, but no book will ever be as good as Kiki Strike.

    Eclectic Book Club Peeps:

All righty, let's have those nominations for our next big read. What's everyone in the mood for?

Post your selections in the "Genres" thread and we'll hash it out. If that takes too much energy, I will put all genres nominated in a hat and pick one at random!

I agree with you. If you're not enjoying it, don't finish it. Life is too short to put up with books you don't enjoy. reading should be fun.

Also, I have a friend who loved his first novel The Virgin Suicides but didn't care for Middlesex.

Just got back from trekking across Japan so I haven't had internet for a while. Anyway, my profile pic was taken in Longman Grottoes, China. Definitely recommend visiting some day! I'll have to check out some of your books, I'm always looking for a new one to read!

Yes, I loved both The Thorn Birds and Shogun in tv miniseries, which was a wonderful plus since the video versions of favorite books so often disappoint.

In answer to your other query, "clinch" covers are the ones with the half-naked guy embracing the girl with her dress coming off. Ick ick ick. IMO it's that image that gave romance fiction its reputation of being poorly written mind candy for bored housewives. OTOH, there are lots of readers who love clinch covers. Obviously I don't so I'm glad I write for a publisher who doesn't use them!

Thanks for the compliments on my covers. The art department does a great job, for which I'm grateful since the author doesn't have much influence on what goes on the book. Fortunately HH doesn't do clinch covers.
You must try The Far Pavilions and Shadow of the Moon. Fabulous depictions of India under British rule. I note that you have one of my other favorite "world builders" on your shelves already, Shogun, Taipai and Noble House. I thought the Richard Chamberlain miniseries of Shogun was very good; the HBO rendition of The Far Pavilions was a terrible disappointment. Read the book, don't see the film!
