Well, I've been in a nice old historical area in south-est of France. It felt a bit like traveling in time, that's how old most of the buildings around there seemed.
I am a lawyer, not the most honest or desirable job in the world, as some would say. :)
    How about you?

    Hi!
Well, I haven't started it yet, I planned to do that this weekend. But I'll definately let you know. I only got the book because a friend of mine was so enthusiastic about it and kept on recommending it to me. So I got curious about it as well.
Otherwise I'm ok, just came back from my holiday a few days ago and now I'm back to work, although I don't really feel like doing this. If I could, I'd travel all year long. :)
    How are you?

    Hi!

I have read a few Latin American writers, but I don't think any of them was Mexican. So if there is any name you want to tell me about, please do. I just hope I will find them translated, since I don't speak any Spanish, although I manage to understand quite a bit.

What exactly are you studying? From what you said I understand you get to study literature from different parts of the world. Sounds quite interesting, I'm sure you manage to find out much more than the obvious cultural differences between some areas.

Well, I would be more than happy to attach some snow from outside to this message and send it to you. It snowed all weekend last week and it hasn't melted yet.

    Have a nice weekend!

    Hi Erick!

I am allright, thanks. I have been quite lazy with my reading with Christmas, New Year and all and I have a lot of books I have to finish. Hope you'll have a great year as well. :)

You have no idea how happy I get when I hear that people actually read and know some things about Romania besides than what is in the press, which is always only the negative parts unfortunately. Yes, I have read something by Cioran, although many years ago, a book called "Pe culmile disperarii". I'm not sure how I can translate it, maybe something like "On the peak of despair". Which one of his books are you reading?

If you like a bit more philosophical books, you might like Iulia Hasdeu. She is also Romanian. I read something by her and it was pretty profound, especially considering her age and her story.

for you to get a little idea about what i mean. Just managed to visit it this summer and it was quite creepy, but if you can ignore the image created by her father, her writing is quite good.

Thanks for the reccommendation of Lindqvist's book. Haven't heard of him yet, but it's always nice to discover new authors.

Have a nice day as well. I bet you are having nice and hot weather there, right? :)

Thanks. The japanese one sounds really interesting, :)
Unfortunately I am not too proud with what I read lately, literature I mean. Having a lot of exams to take, I prefered to read not so complicated books. But I did enjoy The diary of a girl by Anne Frank- extremely honest and touching, and I just finished reading Metamorphoses by Kafka. I have always considered him a difficult read, but this I even read in English and the language used was really ok.
I see here you are studying English literature. Have you seen the BBC list with the 100 books one must read? What did you think of it?

    Have a nice day!

Hi Erick! Just wondering if you had anymore luck with Dr. Zhivago, 'cause I stopped a long time at a certain page and was wondering if it is worth to continue reading it now, or just started again some other time. Thanks.

No, I have not read anything by him! Funnily enough, I was just researching him the other day. I was thinking of reading A Scanner Darkly--have you read that? Ironically, I'm not much into science-fiction when it comes to books, though I do love the movies!

I have not published anything as of right now! I'm working on it, though. Waiting for some replies to publishers, actually. So we'll see. :) And no, I can only speak English!

Ah, great cities to go to! I was born here in the US--my grandparents are from Italy. And I just haven't had the means to go, but I will someday! I still have family over there I'd like to visit, and a friend or two in the USAF stationed in the country. Plus, Italy is just one of those countries you have to go to at some point in your life!

Hi! Thanks for the friend request.
I just started the book, but what I can tell you is that the beginning is very complicated. The author wants to introduce you to all the characters and they are quite a lot of them, and they are all connected in a way or another. That wouldn't necessarily be a problem, but I get quite mixed up in the names, as they are quite complicated. Otherwise I like the writing style so far and the story is quite interesting. Try to see the TV version of the book first, with Keira Knightley. It is quite long, in 3 parts, but good.

I haven't read too many of Mishima's works and I have to admit, this is the first time I hear of The Shigekuni Honda saga(I'll keep it in mind!).
I've only read South of the border,West of the Sun by Haruki Murakami and I really liked it, especially because it had some connections to jazz music.
I also like Yasushi Inoue's style, and also Osamu Dazai, but from the more traditional writers Kawabata is definetly my favourite!
Unfortunately I couldn't find Genji Monogatari at the public library in my town, there seems to be no romanian translation of it :( so I think I'll try buying an English version when I find it.

Well, Romanian is mostly a latin language altough it has borrowed certain grammar structures and words from slavic languages such as russian. It also has a lot of french words and grammar structures which were combined with the natives' language. Romanian culture and language is mostly a blend of native, latin and slavic culture, so it's quite interesting.

Hi! So, you can speak English, German, Portugese and Japanese. Quite impressive! Hopefully I'll improve my French and I'll learn Japanese so that I can fluently speak it one day when I visit Japan...
I really like Kawabata's style because he is more traditional, rather than other Japanese writers such as Yukio Mishima who has a more modern style.

Been good. How have you been? Find any good sources on Blake?

Yes I recommend it, but Damon isn't correct about everything he says about Blake. He's pretty good when it comes to interpreting the symbols Blake uses e.g. Los is Sol spelled backwards and Sol is gold in alchemical language and is also the God principle in mystical alchemical systems.
When it comes to interpreting Blake's Christianity he's less trustworthy. To understand Blake's Christianity, Converse In Spirit and Angel Of Apocalypse are better.
A good biography is Blake: Prophet Against Empire by David Erdman. I've read parts of it and it is usually cited as the best biography.
