"People say that life is the thing, but I prefer reading." Logan Pearsall Smith

I am a college student in the Bay Area majoring in theatre, but once I graduate I plan on getting my MLS. I work at my university's library and a local new/used bookstore because, yes, I am that much of a geek and I'm just that lucky. more »

Oh, also: If you liked Old Man's War (I just read your review), I think you'd like The Forever War by Joe Haldeman. It's another thought-provoking sci-fi military book, written by a Vietnam veteren.

The Rory Gilmore Book Club: Discussion for Part Three of The Fountainhead is up.

Sorry I've been sort of absent lately. I'm keeping up with what you guys post - I've just been going through some life lately. I'll be more active for Part 3.

I'm going to be writing a steampunk novel! :D

it's like cyberpunk, but whereas cyberpunk is set in the future, steampunk is set in histoical settings (oftentimes in the Victorian era, but with anachronisms like advanced technology). I haven't read much steampunk (though I plan to this year as research for my novel), but The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson is extraordinary and a very good example of steampunk. An anthology has also come out recently with a bunch of short stories by steampunk authors, and it's called Steampunk and compiled by Jeff and Ann Vandermeer. :)

Yaaaay I knew you'd love it. Seregil is seriously one of the sexiest fictional characters ever. I just read the 5th book and OMG it was incredible. I devoured it in a day. 522 pages in a day. She's hoping to have the 6th one out next summer. :D

    Rory Gilmore Book Club News:

I've begun some discussion topics for Part One of The Fountainhead. I found some really great questions that should get us going on good discussion threads. I hope you'll be joining in.

Also, if you do not have the introduction by Ayn Rand in your copy of the book, please send me an Admin message. Unless everyone has it, it is definitely worth it for me to type out the whole thing and get it up on the board!

    Hi!

The Fountainhead is our official Rory group read this summer. Since it is such a large book, I'm breaking down the four parts of the books into our four months of the summer season.

    June: Peter Keating
    July: Ellsworth M. Toohey
    August: Gail Wynand
    September: Howard Roark

I'll send you a message when the discussion begins. Happy Reading!

All righty, let's have those nominations for our next big read. What's everyone in the mood for?

Post your selections in the "Genres" thread and we'll hash it out. If that takes too much energy, I will put all genres nominated in a hat and pick one at random!

bwahahaha. you should read her other series. i'm re-reading it now. it's different but still highly addictive and it still plays with sexuality, which I really like in a fantasy series. I wish she'd write more stuff :(

that'd be great, yeah. i won't have as much time to read this quarter, i've got TONS for anthro and astronomy, though i'll probably be lazy on the astronomy front. I'm reading lots of graphic novels for my graphic novel class, though, and i'm sure i'll be able to squeeze in one fun book a week, hopefully at least.
