I am a teacher. I read a variety of books. "Modern" classics are my favorite. My favorite of all time is "Sometimes a Great Notion." I like to eat, draw, listen to music and wear sparkley things. I am an astronaut.

I love everything L.M. Montgomery wrote, so of course I love "The Story Girl" and its companion "The Golden Road."

The things I usually remember about King's books are not necessarily how they scared me (which they did) but instead about the deep ideas they contain. This may be one of the best examples.

The heroine is so authentic that it's unsettling it was written by a man. Such fun to follow her along on her journey through the latter half of the 20th century. Yes, the ending is a bit mystical, but it's ultimately, to me, a "hippie book," so it seems appropriate.

    Powerful. Worth rereading (again.)

A book that stays with you. Well written. Keeps you guessing. Somehow unsatisfying at the end, maybe because it ended too happily.

No one can beat Darcy...but I still enjoyed it thoroughly.

Not one of my favorite Russian novels ever, but obviously a classic and an impressive "tour-de-force" type accomplishment. One of those books with only a handful of morally solid characters, who you cling to to deliver you from the self-absorbtion of everyone else.

I really enjoyed this book. The author was so honest about something that for most people would be an embarassing chapter (or chapters...) of life. It was the type of book that, rather than pitying or judging the author, I found myself relating to her and rooting for her. It was insightful look into how some poeple develop alcohol addiction at a young age. It will make you rethink your own teenage and college exploits with more gravity.

I was inspired by Sebold's fearlessly honest perspective on her rape and subsequent struggle to regain power over her life. It was also interesting as a companion to "Lovely Bones" - it gave a lot of insight as to how and why she constructed that fictional story based on her own emotional experiences. Of any book I've read about or involving the topic, this one most clearly explained and created empathy for what a rape victim (at least this one in particular) experiences.
