If you ask me, I will mail you a copy of Brooks Hansen's novel The Chess Garden. I'm not kidding.

I listened to the buzz downstairs and prayed
For everybody to be always well:
Uncles and aunts, the maid, her niece Adele
Who'd seen the Pope, people in books, and God.

No I haven't heard of that author: tell me more, in a week, when I can breathe!

Kid's school is delayed by two hours, yikes, better get dressed and moving...

Oh, and about Writing True-- thank God for some "how to"! I am soooooo lost for criteria to judge and form my own writing!

So far, I like the tone of it.

Have you noticed that neither Facebook nor Shelfari has any "how to" information? Like, what's the difference between a bookshelf and a reading list? Maybe it's supposed to be intuitive, hmmm.

    Another great photo, Emily!

A friend suggested Shelfari over GoodReads-- I've yet to figure out how to merge it all onto the Facebook page, but I'll get there.

I typed my first book description on The Aaaaht of the Puhhhhsonal Essay, at your request! (My children put on their best Brahmin accents when speaking the title, to show our rarified upperclass tastes.)

Yes, I'll seriously consider the Milton. I'm sad to think you'll be moving back to the Midwest, though I absolutely understand. Family is most important in my mind. So, Milton or no Milton, we'll have to be sure to get together a few times before you depart.

Of course I have a picture! Say, sorry I didn't get to say good-bye before leaving Santa Fe. I realized there were others I missed as well. Did you notice that I have Lenin's Tomb on my shelf? Right there with other pieces of quality literature like Calvin and Hobbes. What can I say, I like variety. Talk to you soon I hope.

Hi Emily, I've not read a single book from your shelf. I will learn lots from your selections. There towards the bottom I recognize one of your favorites, The Chess Garden.

    Emily-
Nice to hear from you! I still think about the wet walk at Whidbey, and all the talking about books, especially "Till We Have Faces," which I still need to annotate.
