ELibrarian

Librarian and gardener, I rarely have time to actually READ! When I do, my selections seem to mostly be non-fiction. Perhaps that is because I tend to fall asleep about 10 minutes after opening a book -- and with non-fiction, at least I don't lose the plot line!

"Doing it my way" is important because, in my estimations, this world has become place where one is fed answers and expected to accept them. For me, that's perhaps the most destructive and inhibiting action one could possibly take.

I question everything, and this mindset support that. Why wouldn't I wish to have a mindset that fit my life's passion?

Just saw "daddy read aloud to me." That is by far the best! Neither of my parents read to us. Too busy I guess raising seven kids. But both encouraged reading by being readers themselves. I remember my father faithfully reading the evening paper with a cigar hanging from his mouth wearing his slippers sitting in his chair. When he came home from work, he would change from his work shoes to is slippers, and go to his chair where the untouched newspaper awaited him. Only after he finished each section were we allowed to read it. Of course, for the longest time all I read was the comics. :-) We subscribed to Look, Life and The Saturday Evening Post. Fortunately, we didn't have to wait for Daddy to finish it before we could read it. But we did have to share them with siblings. On Sundays, our father would buy The Chicago Tribune to read in addition to The South Bend Tribune that we got daily and on the weekend. He would go to the newstand to buy it and would almost always also buy three comic books. One for my brother who was thirteen months older than my twin sister and I. The other two for us twins. We were the three oldest siblings. They were good comics like Little Lulu, Baby Huey, Superman, Archie, Betty and Veronica, Uncle Scrooge, Little Dot, Katy Keene, etc. In the summer, I used to love to lay in the hammock and read or reread those comics or a book from our community library that was a mile away. It was a pleasant walk there anticipating what we would check out and an exciting walk back knowing that we would have books to read on our return. My how your sweet tag brought back so many reading memories. Thanks!

I love your tag "internalized the message." "Loser guy makes good" is a neat one, too.
