I was a public school teacher in the South Bronx for two years. At this job I read to escape my tired life. I also read many children's books to and for my 5th graders. Then I went to law school and worked in the Family Courts in NYC. I took a few months off to live in the Outer Banks, but now I am back in NYC and working in the Criminal...more »

  • Oscar Wilde and a Death of No Importance: A Mystery

This book started well but I think it was a little to long. I liked the idea of seeing Oscar Wilde interact in England. The mystery was an added bonus. I just wish it was executed in a better fashion.

  • But Enough About Me: A Jersey Girl's Unlikely Adventures Among the Absurdly Famous
    • Rated 3 stars

This was a cute book. I liked the small anecdotes about the celebrities. Jancee Dunn certainly has an interesting life. This was a quick read, but it didn't keep my attention the way I expected it to.

I really liked this book. It wasn't typical chick lit. It definitely had a heart to it that I did not expect. I really liked the main characters and hope to read more about them in the future.

  • An Arsonist's Guide to Writers' Homes in New England: A Novel
    • Rated 3 stars

This was a unique book. I have never met a character like Sam before and he made me uncomfortable throughout the book. All of the characters behave oddly. That being said, the book makes interesting points about the relationship between reading and entertainment and truth and fiction. It will make me think for some time to come, but I doubt I would read it again.

  • One for the Money: A Stephanie Plum Novel
    • Rated 3 stars

Stephanie Plum is an interesting character. I didn't understand why she wears bike shorts around New Jersey, but she made me laugh. I will probably give this series another shot and see if it gets better. I wasn't terribly impressed, but Stephanie sticks with you.

  • Memoirs of a Muse: A Novel

This book was a little silly. It showed an interesting immigrant perspective, although I do wonder how accurate a description it is. It gives you something to think about when you see a young woman with an old man, perhaps this is the story that lies behind the match up.

  • The Full Cupboard of Life (No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, Book 5)
    • Rated 3 stars

This was another cute installment in the series. At first I was frustrated with the detective story ending but after thinking about it I decided it was perfect. Not everyone will always listen to the wisdom of Precious. She is still amusing and endearing.

  • Past Perfect: A Novel
    • Rated 3 stars

I can't say I was overly impressed with this book. The premise was good, but I didn't think the end delivered. I did not love the other book I read by this author (Any Place I Hang My Hat). Perhaps I should give up on her.

  • The Martian Child: A Novel About A Single Father Adopting A Son
    • Rated 5 stars

This was a very fast, fun read. I fell in love with both the Dad and the adopted son in this story. It made me smile throughout. It was a great read.

  • Twilight (Twilight, Book 1)
    • Rated 4 stars

This book was more three and a half stars, but I rounded up because I liked where the end was going. It is definitely a young adult book. I wanted more adventure and less romance, but the adventure picked up towards the end. I will give the second book in the series a try eventually, but not right away.
