I used to like reading poetry and novels but as I get older, I am increasingingly drawn to history -- the story of my own ancestors and that of the world they existed in, both physical and cultural. I'm also very interested in how geography and the physical world shapes human existence. As climate changes, how will this affect human culture... more »

    Hi Edie,
Thanks for your note about "Family Properties." Since you actually witnessed one of the housing protests in Chicago, I'd be interested to hear your reaction after you've read it.

August: Osage County is the best play I've seen in awhile. Anything by Ibsen is usually good too. But I only vaguely recollect that from my undergrad days when I read 3 plays a week for class. Nowadays I mostly skim through plays looking for suitable monologues for 12 year olds and read a lot of articles on arts education.

Sorry; no I am not reading anything now, and until the summer at least, I don't know if I will have time to. Hobbies though, yes. I found this really cool space sim. You play it straight from your internet browser. Heres the link: www.pardus.at (Its servers are in Austria, but the site is in English.)| Actually, now that I think about it, I am reading one book... I'll add it now. (I'll post a picture too.)

I am just getting started, so bear with me. I have never met anyone on the internet. I have never been in a chat room.
If you look at my books you'll see two by Jim Thompson. He was a pulp fiction writer in the fifties. He was a natural born writer and a hopeless alcoholic.
I am a fan of the Coen Brothers. films. Jim Thompson influenced them. "No Country for Old Men" had a lot of Thompson in there. Either the author of the book that the movie is based on, or the Coen Bothers, gave it the Thompson look.
I'm better at recommending movies though.
I'm also a fan of Garrison Kieler. Do you know he opened a bookstore in Minneapolis and sells only the books he likes.
William Kennedy won the Pulitzer Prize for IRONWEED. It was third in a continuing, fictional history of Albany, New York. LEGS was the second, about the bootlegger Legs Diamond. The first was BILLY PHELAN'S GREATEST GAME. I've read his numbers 4 and 5 and lost track. Great period pieces. The other two are just good sports books. I will recommend many more sports books in time.
Am I supposed to meet people on this site or what?
I noticed there are a lot of erotica fans out there. Once again, I am better at recommending movies.
By the way, did we go to kindergarten together at Cook School? Tracy.
