Hi ya'll.
If you can't tell from my greeting I am a proud Southern woman. I have been an avid reader as long as I can remember. Books have always been my refuge from the craziness of life. I like romance, historical romance, romantic suspense, mystery/thriller, and medical suspense the most. I enjoy both secular and Christian authors. Some of my favorites are Nora Roberts, Catherine Coulter, Robin Cook, Patrica Cornwell, Karen Kingsbury, Colleen Coble, and Terri Blackstock. Actually this list could go on and on because I am always checking out new authors and then have to add them to the list of who I love to read.
I usually enjoy what I would call pleasure reading or "light" reading. However, I work in a middle school and we have been encouraging our students to push themselves in their reading. As a result, I have begun to challenge myself to read more classics such as Pride and Prejudice and Planet of the Apes or just more serious books like The Book Thief or The Devil's Arithmetic. I still enjoy the "fun" books but also appreciate the more serious reads.
I have always wanted to be part of a book group, but it has never worked out so I was excited about shelfari. I have a kindle and love reading on it. However, I will always have a bookshelf, or two, in my house. You just can't replace the joy of a real book. Like so many of you have mentioned, I think I could live in a book store. I couldn't afford it, but I certainly would enjoy it.
I hope this gives you a small snapshot of myself as a reader. I look forward to getting to know you all as we share our thoughts about books.
Laura
