Thanks for visiting our family library, whose noblest works reflect our love for our Lord and His bride, the Church. As an editor, I've included books on writing and literature, as sound writing begins with sound reading. That a book is on our shelves does not imply endorsement. As Fr DePauw would say, "to quote is not always to agree."

  • The Catholic Controversy
    • Rated 0 stars

"We believe in the only true and living God, Lord and Creator of all, subsisting in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. To this God alone, we give adoration. We believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Eternal Son of God, who for our salvation was made man. We acknowledge Him our only Redeemer, who paid our ransom by dying for us on the cross."

  • The Book of Snobs
    • Rated 3 stars

"First, the World was made: then, as a matter of course, Snobs; they existed for years and years and were no more known than America. An immense percentage of Snobs is to be found in every rank of life. You must not judge hastily or vulgarly of Snobs: to do so shows that you are a Snob. I myself have been taken for one." —William Makepeace Thackeray

  • The History of Chivalry
    • Rated 3 stars

"Attention to the subjects of the Middle Ages of Europe has for many years been growing among us. The romances of chivalry, in prose and meter, have sustained the interest. Still, no attempt has been made to describe at large the institutions of knighthood and to mark the history of chivalry in the various countries of Europe." —Charles Mills

  • Cushing of Boston
    • Rated 3 stars

"One of the most astonishing things about the Cardinal of Boston, which makes him beloved by people throughout the world, is his honesty and directness. 'Take your priesthood seriously, but never yourself' was a program young Cushing took as his own." —Michael Novak

  • The Adolescent

"The novel is essentially a bildungsroman—one of the popular genre's most underrated entries. Even its critics have praised its believably detailed and forcefully presented picture of adolescence. It has often been said that this was the most convincing adolescence depiction before The Catcher in the Rye." —Bill Moore

"The Highlanders, who formed the strength of Charles Edward’s army, were an ancient and high-spirited race. Their prince, young, valiant, and despising danger, proved to be one of those who distinguish themselves during some extraordinarily brilliant period, like the course of a shooting-star."

  • The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America: A Chronological Paper Trail
    • Rated 3 stars

"The philosophies of Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Wilhelm Wundt, and John Dewey et al. reflect a total departure from the traditional definition of education. Education in the twenty-first century, for the majority of youth, will be work-force training. Thus, the need for Pavlovian/Skinnerian methodology."

"The Holy Family of Nazareth was the mustard seed out of which the tree of the Universal Church has grown. In Joseph and Mary and the Holy Child, we have the models of the father, mother, and the children who form the Catholic family." —Bishop Louis Charles (Preface)

    Mary magnifying God: May sermons

    by William Humphrey
    • Rated 3 stars

"The aim of the writer has been to show that Mary has her place in Christian theology just as she has her place in the economy of the Incarnation—that devotion to her is not an ornamental addition of Christianity but an essential constituent. A Christianity in which Mary has not a place is 'another gospel.'" (Preface)
