Personally, I find the Holocaust era to be a very fascinating time period. There is so much to learn about it and it is also very heart breaking. Number the Stars is a fictional book that revolves around a Jewish girl who is pretending to not be Jewish so she would not be taken to a concentration camp. The Holocaust is such an in depth era that it is very hard for children to understand. Lowry did a good job of explaining these events in a fictional book that many children can understand easily.
