I totally enjoyed this "prequel" to the book The Upper Room. The characters were so real that I feel like I know Mama Ruby personally. I can't wait to see this book made into a movie.

A very good story with a hint of history. Bernice McFadden's words flow like a restless river. You can't get enough.

A good read, but I was a little disappointed with the ending. It wrapped up too quick.

Usually books about the south and the harsh treatment of black people makes me upset, and I try to steer away from books like that, but someone recommended this book to me, and I'm glad that they did. I enjoyed this book immensely.

Just when everything is flowing well, life throws three siblings a curve ball when suddenly their mother "Madre" dies. If this is not bad enough, Victoria, Veronica and Ramon's lives are thrown into hush-hush uncertainty when their absent father shows up to pay his last respects and make funereal plans for their deceased mother. More problems arise when their father "Padre" is nothing like the man of their memories.

This story of family secrets, mystery and suspense will keep you turning the pages until you get to jaw-dropping end.

Mary Monroe keeps the drama moving with a return story of best friends, Annette and Rhoda who bought have secret lovers on the side, but one lover turns out to be a big fake.

I enjoyed this story and eagerly look forward to the next installation from Mary Monroe.

A fast-paced story of a good girl running with the wrong man. This story held my attention from the start to the finish. I look forward to reading her next book.
