Wow, they changed the settings. I haven't moved all my books from my "I've read" list to "I plan to read" so please don't think I've read all that stuff. My read list is always about 1/3 of what I'd like to read, if I'm lucky.

    I highly welcome all my friends who joined this group. U R welcome everyday; I'll try to be here everyday ( with beer mugs!!!!) to wish U good day and to share and exchange with U! But, please don't be a silent visitor; make this club (Adda) yours own territory where U can tell anything ( as 'I think....'), ask anything ,open any discussion, share other's experience, whatever U like.
    First of all, let us introduce ourselves as a traveller. I would appreciate an essay on yourself--you as a traveller; your enjoyments, taste and likings, funs U made, some memorable happenings so on and so forth! Please Be innovative; you are the pioneer! print your footsteps here. I'll post my essay shortly!

    Had to leave a note for the only other Shelfarian with "Rock Crystal." Do you honestly live in Stump Town, Oregon? If so, it sounds like a really happenin' burg.

    Hey Dylan --

    Is this how you're supposed to respond to notes on this site? i don't know.

    I've only read the first half of THE GRAND WHEEL -- I can't remember why I had to stop, but I still want to finish it.

    I definitely recommend Barrington Bayley in general, though, if you haven't read him before. At least if you're into old-school weirdo-idea-based science fiction. He's like H.G. Wells's crackpot little brother. Terrible on characterization and scientific plausibility, but better at generating genuinely mind-blowing ideas than nearly any writer I can think of. He was a gigantic (little-known) influence on William Burroughs, who stole the idea that humanity is a galactic virus from Bayley.

    COLLISION COURSE or THE FALL OF CHRONOPOLIS are good places to start. THE GRAND WHEEL seemed good from what I read, too. You have to give him some time before you give up, because, like I said, his prose style's a little shaky.

    His short stories are supposed to be the best of all, but I haven't read those.

    Dylan,
    this site is addicting;
    it's become a daily meditation,
    remembering the books I like especially;
    I am glad that we share love for W. Blake and Cortazar!

    I am reading Spark Plug Comics at the moment,
    so delighted:);):)

    Pio Baroja? You're trying to throw me off the trail, aren't you? Because his works were not translated into English until fairly recently (I think), Baroja is not in the public domain. I'm talking about Edith Wharton and Nate Hawthorne, and writers like that. Public domain. And don't worry, I'm about to begin work on that masterpiece about the country music family. I'm just thinking ahead to the next graphic novel. I think it should be an adaptation (preferably of an American novel).

    Say, Dylan: What novel (or novels) in the public domain do you think is (are) ripe for adaptation as a graphic novel? (besides The Man Who Was Thirsty?)

    Do you read Arthur Machen, Dylan? It seems right up your alley.
    Try either the Great God Pan or the White People out if you haven't. I just read the Three Impostors, dang! Soooo eerie.

    Also I wanted to brag that I saw Om play last week, that was as great as you could guess.

    Later!

    Dylan,
    I caught part of the Warlock movie on cable while reading it, had to resist watching it to save for later. Hell of a book, but a huge cast of characters to deal with.
    Tove Jansson has become one of my favorites very quickly, I find her books totally irresistible.
    Need to read more Orwell myself!
    Sweet shelf you've got, by the way.

    Thanks for the friendship request. We do not have that many books in common - I wonder what attracted you to my shelf?
    Your friend JoeKuth is in for a treat with The Summer Book (but it is not a Moomin book)

    You are totally annoying. "Update your page." "I'm gonna double post!" Geez Dylan. Some people can't just shelfari all day. Some people have to deal with real books. Not just virtual books. I kid. I kid.
