I'm an avid reader and compulsive list maker. For the last five or so years, I have written down every book I've read. I got this idea while working in the library. There was this old man who came in with his notebook so that he wouldn't check out the westerns that he'd already read. I also watch my father struggle to remember if he's read a... more »

I was lucky to receive an ARC (Advanced Reading Copy) of this book from Alison Kent with the understanding that I would review it before it's December release. So, I read it this past week and here are my thoughts...

Finn is in Miami on a PI assignment-- to dig into the personal life of Roland for a potential suitor. But when Olivia, Roland's boss, spots Finn staking out her boutique, she approaches him about a photographic project that she wants to undertake.

That is the blurb condensed down to two sentences. Problem is, that's only half the story. The other half of the story deals with Roland and his life and love interest, Jodi.

I rather wish Finn and Olivia's romance was explored a little more. Roland and Jodi got a lot more time than I felt a sub-plot (and one that wasn't even mentioned in the blurb) deserved. Characters, relationship and plot probably could have been developed more if they were given more time and both stories would have excelled if they were given their own books.

All that said, I did like the book. It's the first full length Alison Kent novel that I've read and I'm intrigued and want to read more by her. Word of warning, this a pretty spicy book, so if you don't like to read about bedroom play, you'll probably want to pass on by.

It was rather a let down in some aspects. The romance between Phury and Cormia seemed to take a backseat to advancing the war between the Vampires and Lessers. While that was good, Cormia's character wasn't developed as much as you'd think it would in a 500+ page book.

Weakest of the series. I felt some of the characters made too drastic a change from previous books. And the scandal at the end was too easily dismissed.
