D. S. Butler is the author of the DS Mackinnon series of crime mystery books set in London. She studied biochemistry at Kings College London, and went on to achieve a PhD in biochemistry from the University of Southampton, then worked as a post-doctoral researcher in the chemistry department at the University of Oxford.

D. S. Butler is the author of the DS Mackinnon series of crime mystery books set in London. She studied biochemistry at Kings College London, and went on to achieve a PhD in biochemistry from the University of Southampton, then worked as a post-doctoral researcher in the chemistry department at the University of Oxford.

For two years she worked for the NHS, in a hospital pathology laboratory, performing a number of diagnostic tests, including tests for malarial parasites, coagulation and cross-matching blood.

In 2007 she moved to the Middle East and has lived in Bahrain, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Her interest in science seeps into her writing and her books often include scientific elements in the settings, characters or even the murder methods.

D. S. Butler now writes fiction full time and divides her time between the UK and the UAE. « less
