"For now there was only the sun and the sun and the sun. It was every horizon, it was every direction. It burned the minutes, the seconds, the hourglasses, the clocks; it burned all time and eternity away. It burned the eyelids and the serum of the dark world behind the lids, the retina, the hidden brain; and it burned sleep and the sweet memories of sleep and cool nightfall."

this book is so dense with information that it took me forever to read, but it was incredibly educational. it really helps put a lot of things together.

    The Journey to the East

this first part of this was really slow, but about 50 pages in it sort of changes modes... around that point i got really into it. there are certain parts that i really love. "The stronger these felling became, the clearer it seemed to me that it was not only that I had lost faith in finding Leo again, but everything now seemed to become unreliable and doubtful; the value and meaning of everthing was threatened: our comradeship, our faith, our vow, our Journey to the East, our whole life."

There is a line in this book that always sort of stuck with me: "'I see that you think more than you can express. But if that's the case, you must also know that you have never fully lived out your thoughts, and that isn't good. Only the thoughts that we live out have any value.'" This was a very cool book and a good read. This and Siddhartha are the only Hesse books that I've read thus far, but they have made me eager to read all of his work that i can.

this book was so fucking fun to read. i loved it! I'm no authority on writing or literature, but i like to read and this book changed the way i thought about writing and how stories can be told.

reading this book was a very soothing experience. i often think about it when i'm stressed and go read some passages. it really mellows me out. this book really blew my mind, but not in a very descibable way
