    Hi DL!

So glad to see you take over as admin on the YA group. I always enjoy your posts and thoughtful comments about the books.

Just wondering . . . What about having a "Shameless Self-Promotion" thread pinned to the top. I get really tired of authors who have never posted before to a group posting about their novel. Some of my other groups have done this and it has worked well.

    Hi,

It's been quite a while since I've been able to keep up with my groups. I simply don't have access to the internet like I used to (country living has it's downsides). I have really enjoyed your comments and wondered if you'd like to take the YA group on as an admin?

LOL, shame! :P I probably won't pull that one. But I'm not above going over people's heads if need be. Thanks for your help :)

Thank you so much! I wouldn't mind talking with this librarian person to person, but I'm trying to figure out what's the best way to go. I certainly wouldn't mind helping her put the books into the system.

I was thinking that I might have to figure out who in the city government might be able to "assist" the Director of the library if this woman won't do anything, as is alleged. I think this has been brought to business meetings and it's been hastily brushed over. I don't know what the board meeting would look like/consist of. There is a Friends of the Library group. I could also look into that avenue.

That's a really good idea, about maybe doing a letter writing thing with a bunch of parents and/or young adults!

    Thank You soo much!!! :)

Hi DL! I need some advice. I'm currently volunteering at my city library. The YA section is sorely lacking in books. I've donated books in the past, only to have them "disappear" before they ever make it to the shelves. Since volunteering there, I've found a couple of trustworthy librarians who graciously accept my donated books and get them on the shelves within a week. However, recently I've found out that the YA Librarian has boxes upon boxes of books in her office which she does nothing with. Many of them are from our library's book distributor. When her supervisors tell her to clean up her messy office, she piles the books in her car and brings them to her home where she stores them in her garage. The supervisors know she does this and seemingly are doing nothing about the problem and it continues! I was told this information in confidence. But I don't feel as if I can stand by and continue to watch this dysfunction occur. Do you have any suggestions about what I can do or what can be done about this? Thank you in advance for any ideas you have.

Found your name by accident - I think it is great. Your shelf has lots of titles that I read and enjoyed and a few on my to read list. You should try Maggie Stiefvater, an excellent YA author.

No, I haven't tried Graceling. Too much hype, and too pricey! Only the hardcover issue is available where I live, I think. Or am I confusing it with another book?

Now I'm not certain. Is it really, really good? I hear there is a sequel out, or about to go out. I'd hate to read a book that ends in a cliffhanger, then wait for a long time until the sequel reaches me -which is always the case here, and also the reason why I haven't read the first Hunger Games book yet. Does Graceling work as a stand-alone book?

So much the better! I keep saying I'm 17 inside, so your book suggestions will perfectly match my reading interests. =)
I'll keep an eye open for other books by Maureen Johnson.
Oh, and no Hunger games for me yet. *sigh* I was kind of in a hurry yesterday, so I'll ask you about other specific books when I come back from lunch break. ;)

Yeah, I thought that might not be you, but it was worth a try. ;-)
I haven't read anything by Maureen Johnson or E. Lockhart yet, but I'm currently hunting for 13 Blue Envelopes and Fly on the Wall: they both sound like fun.
It's hard to get relatively new books in English where I live, so I'm just stuffing my brain with Sarah Dessen and Laurie Halse Anderson while the "new" stuff reaches me. *groan*
Although, yesterday in my favorite bookshop I discovered a brand new batch of books about to be stocked. I'm hoping The Hunger Games trilogy and Dessen's Just Listen are there. I'll check back today.
If they're not in yet, I'll take a look at their recent arrivals and ask you for recommendations among them. Would that be okay?

Thank you! I'll begin hunting for that one.
You know, I could use all the recommendations you have to give, so go ahead and shower me with book comments! =)
Oh, and I think this isn't really your style, judging by -what I remember of- your shelves but, have you read The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella? Is it any good?

Hey DL! Quick note to thank you for recommending Honey, Baby, Sweetheart to me. I liked it very much. You have a satisfied customer here. Can I come back again for more suggestions? ;-)

Miss you on the YA discussion board. I did an author interview with Brian Katcher, the author of "Almost Perfect, on my blog. Here's the link if you're interested: http://booksinthespotlight.blogspot.com/2010/07/interview-with-almost-perfects-author.html

That's so sad to hear! Yes, the plot was simplistic, but I think the questions that Marcelo asked himself and others around him were profound and deep. I loved how his relationships with his dad and his female coworker (I'm blanking out as to what her name is at the moment. Gah!) were complex and real. As for getting too much hype, I'd say Fitzpatrick's "Hush, Hush" didn't fit the bill.

Yeah, I loved how the animals could talk... I liked the big cow things, as well as in the swamp how the foxes imitate the squirrels. For dystopia/action, I liked The Hunger Games better but I still might recommend this.

Oh yes, that was the worst part. I hate it when they kill off the dog! The thing is, you can so often see it coming too... when there's a dog, and it's like someone's only friend in the world, it's going to die.

I think the ending would have been better if Haven still existed, and then maybe it wouldn't need a sequel. That part just gave me a headache too... they run away from Aaron, he catches up, it takes forever for him to finally die, then they run into Prentiss Jr., then into him again and he shoots Viola; then they finally think they've reached safety and the whole town is abandoned. I thought it was just too much.
