Just letting everyone know that the June winner for "Good Reads" is The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffengger. If you're interested in reading the book we look forward to your input and discussion.

Also, July nominations are now posted. Feel free to take a look at those and vote.

Participating in the discussions and voting enters you into the drawing to be selected as a nominator. However, no pressure to participate in either one of these.

Glad you're enjoying the Iditarod book. It's a good one. Another good one for you when you're done and if you want more Alaska and Arctic is "Ada Blackjack." Have a good one...

I am still reading. So far it sounds a lot like the Old Testament of the Bible to me. I have a feeling that was on purpose. Thanks for checking in. Hope you are well.

why should you stay away? also, you dont mean celestine prophecy?
I am more interested in reading the actual texts than explanatory secondary texts at the moment, but thanks!

Hi I saw a question you posted on someone else's shelf about a book recommendation about Alaska without it being a dry biography. I just finished reading "Shadows on the Koyukuk" by Jim Rearden which tells the story of the adventures, heartbreak and excitement of life on the Koyukuk river - one of the main tributaries to the Yukon. I could not recommend this book more and strongly recommend you check it out :)

    Hi Doc~

A good history of Alaskan Eskimos is Eskimos In the Bering Strait by Dorothy Jean Ray. Coming into the Coutry by John McPhee is the quintessential. An interesting book about dogsledding and the Iditarod Dogsled race is The Cruelest Miles. All of these books are on my shelf, and if you like, I can recommend them to you formally.

I'm just starting one today: The Last Imaginary Place--Human History in the Arctic by Robert McGhee.
