  • Under the Tuscan Sun

I found this harder to get through than expected. I actually saw the movie first, not knowing it was a book. I found Francis' struggle as a single woman stronger than her having a husband, etc. After a while, I wanted to hear more about the land rather than tombs and more about her area rather than the house construction.

One big plus: the recipes included!!!

  • Knitting Under the Influence

I had high hopes for this one...especially after getting sucked in by the cover. I wish there'd been more knitting in it, especially since it's in the title! I felt the progress was slow and very predictable.

Overall, a cute story. Just wish there'd been more excitement.

  • A Deadly Yarn
    • Rated 3 stars

I liked this book (#3) better than the first two in the series. As others said...there is still alot of editing issues, but Kelly is definately showing more personality, and there's not as much repetition and lack of things going on. There are alot more plot twists and surprises!

  • Mara, Daughter of the Nile (Puffin Story Books)

I read this book in middle school and loved it. I think it made me actually interested in history and historical fiction and ended up starting my Ancient Egypt obsession.

  • A Beautiful Mind: The Life of Mathematical Genius and Nobel Laureate John Nash
    • Rated 2 stars

This biography, though maybe interesting to a person who majored in math or understands all of what Nash worked on better, was pretty jumpy overall. I don't feel like I got a full span of his life, just a summary of all of his math theories, that you could read elsewhere, when I really wanted more depth into his life. The parts that did divulge into his life more were SO interesting that I wanted more of those and less of the math. I know his life was proving theories, but I feel like some of them should've been explained in a more basic way so we grasped the concept, or been skimmed over. Going into more depth about his mental illlness and other aspects of his life may have provided more of a view into his life.

This book was so jumpy I was often confused even though I have read various other sources on the life of Doris Duke. I found it odd that certain big events in her life were not mentioned (Chandi Heffner or Lafferty).

I love this series so much. It's a great summer read and definately a nice insight into the time period.

A bit disappointed with the Alex Barnaby series! It seemed like a very similar 'formula' to the Plum series, especially with Hooker inserting "Darlin'" for Ranger's "Babe..." It definately had its funny moments, but loved the Plum series more!

  • Trust No One: The Glamorous Life and Bizarre Death of Doris Duke
    • Rated 3 stars

The only reason I gave this one a '3' was that it's a very interesting look into Doris Duke's life with interesting insider perspective(one of the co-writers was her chef). However, this book looks entirely unedited and had atrocious spelling, grammer, mistakes ALL OVER and it was unacceptable.
