All you need to read now is Eclipse and you'll be ready for the final book, Breaking Dawn, out August 2nd! There's really not much to the Twilight Saga but it's an engaging story that I'm addicted to, like so many others. But that's really all I ask of a book, to be caught up in it, so wrapped up that I forget everything else. They may not be the best books written but they're good stories.

Keturah and Lord Death has become one of my favorite books. A librarian on one of the forums recommended it and it's beautifully written and was a National Book Award Finalist although the author, Martine Leavitt, has won many honors. It's a quick read that I would recommend to YA and adults alike. It made me think of death but not in a morbid way and one can't help then but to think of life, one's own life and death, as thoughts swirl around as they do. It's a glorious book that I'll treasure and keep forever and smile when I see it on my bookshelf. It's not paranormal or fantasy, imho, but perhaps historical fiction with a touch of a fairy tale. =) Keturah goes for a walk in the woods and gets lost and is gone for three days when death comes for her. She's afraid and not ready to die so she starts to tell a story, which is one thing she is good at and would always do in her small village around the common fire. Once she realizes that death has become interested in her story she bargains with him...

Paranormal and fantasy is my comfort reading and I'm finding there are some very entertaining YA books-some that you can't tell are YA except that the protagonists are under 18. They deal with some very heavy adult themes and can be, at times, very explicit. I'm not one for chick lit romance but other than that, I'll read most anything. I'm also a sucker for self-help books.

Do you have any favorites to recommend? What kind of books do you find you like to read?

    Hi -
I liked it and barely put it down. I won a copy and literally whipped through it. I never read her other books, but believe me I will now! If the other books are good then I am all about reading them!

I think that's such a lovely gesture! Wow!! Thank you so much. Would you like to post it up on PBT with the details. That's just a really nice thing to do, and will help those lower in the pack stay motivated.

Good Reads has chosen a selection for our August book. By a landslide victory we will be reading James Patterson's SUNDAYS AT TIFFANY'S.

I noticed on the PBT thread that you are a Nora Roberts fan! I am also but I have never branched into the JD Robb stuff, I have only stuck to the romance novels! :) They are my little rewards after a particularly hard week at work. Her newest novel, Tribute, comes out in a couple of weeks!

What do you think of her books as Nora Roberts/JD Robb?

Good luck! I've never understood any of those games. Maybe you can explain it to me sometime. When you have a chance, read the discussions about meeting (live) - we're planning to form a group, seems like all women at this point, and will meet in Stillwater towards the end of July. If for any reason you can't meet with this group, I'd love to have lunch or coffee with you sometime in our neck of the woods!

Sorry my activity has dropped on the Short Stories group -- I finish my days at UCLA next week, so I should be back on to comment on the previous stories and start the thread for the 5th story on the 16th. Been crazybusy with midterms, papers and, now, finals. But it will all end soon and I'll get back on the BASS bandwagon very soon.

    Hi Doughgirl,

Wow! You have a very full bookshelf. After seeing your bookshelf, I decided to place a few of the books I remember on mine.

In terms of your comments about "Solid Wood", I didn't sense there was an attempt at a plot. The last exchange, to me, means that the old lady is now so old, she's no longer interested in making any changes; that she is now content with where things are in her life, where she's left everything, the way they are.

I'm curious to see your comments on "Skin", "DeBard", and "Impressions".......
